INSTALLATION AND
OPERATING INSTRUCTION GUIDE
We are pleased you have chosen a Nelson SmartZone™ irrigation
controller. Before installing and programming the controller,
please read these instructions carefully. For quick reference, an
abbreviated version of the programming instructions is located on the
inside cover of the controller.
SmartZone™ controllers feature our unique SmartWarranty™
program that makes service, repair and warranty the easiest in the
industry. The key thing to remember when servicing a SmartZone™ is
DO NOT REMOVE THE ENTIRE CONTROLLER (see pg. 11 for
details).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: Instructions are for indoor or outdoor use.
For the model 8520 (plastic cabinet), drill three holes where indicated.
Open the face of the controller by loosening the panel locking screw
and pulling the tab on the right of the controller panel. Using a Phillips
screwdriver or similar tool, punch out the three screw holes in back of
case. Insert the screws through the holes in the case and screw each
into the corresponding pilot hole in the wall.

Nelson SmartZone™ irrigation controllers efficiently regulate
residential and commercial underground sprinkler systems. The
SmartZone™ controller combines state-of-the-art electronics for
accuracy and reliability, with simplicity of programming for ease of
operation. SmartZone™ controllers feature a full-information LCD
(Liquid Crystal Display) which provides easy-to-understand
information about program settings and controller status, greatly
simplifying set-up and operation.
NOTE: In our efforts to continually improve and update our products,
features and specifications in this manual may change without notice.
On model 8536 (metal cabinet), position two screws 12 inches apart
on a horizontal plane. Install screws leaving enough room for slotted
bracket to slip over. Mark bottom bracket location and install screw to
secure metal cabinet.
NOTE: If the front panel is removed during installation, ensure the
ribbon cable is installed with the red stripe up (or No.1 position on the
pin connector).
