INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Terminal Strips
All zone, pump and sensor connections made inside the controller
utilize tool-less connectors. Press on the terminal strip lever with a pen
or small screwdriver and insert the wire into the bottom. The terminal
strips in SmartZone™ controllers accept 12 AWG (4.8mm) wire or
smaller. Use the routing posts in the box to dress wiring.
8594 (PLUS4 Power Boards)
To install a PLUS4 add-on board, ensure that the AC power is
disconnected. Slide the card into position on the right side of the
board in the back of the controller. Make sure the top edge of the
board rests on the lip in the cabinet.
Align the connectors on the left side with the previously installed
board. Insert the two screws in the top and bottom holes in the card.
NOTE: Ensure the power is disconnected when adding a card to an
existing system. Reset the controller after the card is installed so the
SmartZone™ will be updated and recognize the additional zones.

Wiring the Transformer
Finally, wire the transformer to the power source by attaching the
three wires with wire nuts. The ground wire must be used for the
warranty to be valid. Export has 3 position terminal strip screw type.
For field connection, AC wires must have an insulation rated at 75°C
minimum.
Use the cable tie provided to contain any excess length of AC wire so
it will not touch components on the printed circuit board. (Domestic only.)
Grounding
Grounding is not complete until the green/yellow wire is installed. The
SmartZone™ lightning protection system is also not fully operational
until the ground wire is installed. Please check local codes for the
grounding requirements in your area.
CAUTION: Complete all wiring and installation before connecting the
transformer to the power source. This will avoid accidental shorting
which could damage the controller.
