TECHNICAL DATA
1. Transformer
110/220 VAC; 24VAC, 1.67A for zones and logic. The transformer
can run a pump and up to four valves on a singe zone, or a pump,
master valve and three solenoids, maximum.

2. Surge Protection
The SmartZone™ has three layers of surge/lightning protection:
1. an MOV to protect the SmartZone™ from surges that
come through the transformer
2. each zone, pump and master valve have bidirection transorb
3. a fast reacting sidactor (prominently used in the
communications industry) provides a third layer of protection by
sending lightning energy to earth ground through the
ground wire
Secondary Protection
Standard 1.25 x .25 inch (5x20 mm) fuse rated 1.5A mounted on the
printed circuit board.
3. Terminal Strip
Pump start, master valve, 2 commons and 8 zones of tool less barrier
type, UL Listed, TUV approved terminal strip.
PLUS4 PCB has one connection for each zone of the tool less barrier
type, UL Listed, TUV approved terminal strip.
4. Sensor Operation
The SmartZone™ controller is configured to operate the controller
with or without a sensor. Sensors must have normally closed
connections (leads).
5. Zone Lines
Each zone is capable of operating four (4) solenoids sized for 0.24 Amp at
24V AC holding and 0.48 Amps in rush. You may only run 3 valves at
once if you are also running a pump and master valve.
6. Temperature Range
Operating: -5 to +70 Degrees C (23 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit)
Storage: -30 to +85 Degrees C (-22 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit)
7. Display
Custom LCD with 12/24 hour clock, AM/PM indicators, Program letter,
Program Start Time, Current Mode indicator, Zone Number, Zone
Run Time, Interval, Odd/Even, % Water Budget, Days of the Week,
and associated colons.

8. Batteries
One 9V Alkaline battery is required for "real time" retention,
programming without AC power, and for the controller to default to On
after a power loss. Do not use NiCad batteries.
9. Program Retention
Non Volatile memory is used to retain programs when AC power is
lost.
Non Volatile memory will be updated when the program is changed,
and every 5 minutes.
Non Volatile memory will operate for a minimum of 5 years, worst case.
10. Default Program

No start times
No run times
Every day watering schedule (Interval =1)
100% water budget

Program A
3 second delay between zones
11. Buffer PCB
The Buffer PCB is used in the steel cabinet model when more than 20
zones are used.
12. Switches
Switch #1 12/24 Hour Clock
Off: displays 24 hour clock
On: displays 12 hour clock
Switch #2 Pump S Disable
Off: Pump is enabled for program S.
On: Pump is disabled in S mode, Manual mode, Syringe mode
Switch #3 Pump C Disable
Off: Pump is enabled for program C.
On: Pump is disabled when "C" program is running. Pump is
active for all other programs
Switch #4 HRS:MIN/MIN:SEC
Off: Run time displayed and operated in MIN/SEC format
On: Run time displayed and operated in HRS:MIN format
NOTE: Display looks the same until countdown begins regardless
of which format is chosen.
13. Fuse
Standard 1.25 x .25 inch (5 x 20 mm) fuse rated at 1.5A.
