CMMO-ST Safe torque off
1.1.3

Intended use of the CMMO-ST

The motor controller CMMO-ST is a product with safety-relevant functions and is intended for fitting
into machines or automated systems and must only be used as follows:
– in excellent technical condition,
– in original status without unauthorised modifications,
– within the limits of the product defined by the technical data
– in industrial applications.
Note
Repair or overhaul of the motor controller is not permissible.
In the event of damage caused by unauthorised manipulation or use other than that
intended, the guarantee is invalidated and the manufacturer is not liable for damages.
• If required, exchange the complete motor controller.
1.1.4

Intended use of the STO function

The safely switched off torque function ("Safe Torque Off", STO) per EN 61800-5-2 must only be used
to switch off the torque of a motor connected to the CMMO-ST, e.g. to permit maintenance or repair
work (prevent the motor from unexpectedly starting up).
1.1.5

Foreseeable misuse

The following misuses are among those not approved as intended use:
– use outdoors,
– use in the non-industrial area (residential areas),
– use in applications in which switching off the energy supply to the motor may result in dangerous
movements or statuses.
Caution
Personal injury and material damage due to uncontrolled drive movements
If the STO function is activated as the motor is running, the CMMO-ST will not be able to
brake the motor. Due to mass inertia or other external forces, the motor may continue
to move uncontrollably.
• If necessary, the motor must be shut down safely e.g. by a safety switching device.
This especially applies to vertical axes without automatic locking mechanics, clamp-
ing units or counterbalancing.
When the STO function is active and the motor is standing still, there is no standstill
monitoring, so external forces may set the motor into movement.
• With suspended loads or other external forces, additional measures must be taken
to ensure that the load does not drop (e.g. mechanical holding brake).
Caution
Injury to persons and material damage due to bridged safety devices
Bypassing safety equipment is impermissible.
