Attainable safety level

The CMMO-ST with STO function fulfils the requirements of the test basis for
– Category 3 / PL e per EN ISO 13849-1,
– SIL CL 3 per EN 62061 / IEC 61508,
and can be used in applications up to Cat. 3 / PL e per EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 according
EN 62061 / IEC 61508. The attainable safety level also depends on the other components used to real-
ise the safety function.
• For emergency stop applications, protection against automatic restart corresponding to the re-
quired safety category must be furnished. Among other means, this can take place through an ex-
ternal safety switching device.
1.2

Safety conditions

• Make this documentation available to the design engineer, fitter and person responsible for com-
missioning of the machine or system in which this product will be used.
• Store this documentation throughout the entire service life of the product.
• Be certain that the following specifications of this documentation are always observed. When so
doing, also take into account the documentation for the other components and modules (e.g. motor
controller, circuits etc.).
• Comply with the legal rules as well as:
regulations and standards, rules of the testing organisations and insurance companies and national
specifications applicable for the destination.

Technical requirements

General instructions for the correct and safe use of the product, which must be observed at all times:
• Observe the connection and environmental conditions specified in the technical data of all connec-
ted components. Only compliance with the limit values or load limits will enable operation of the
product in compliance with the relevant safety regulations.
• Observe the warnings and instructions in this documentation.
1.2.2

Qualification of trained personnel

The device may only be set into operation by a qualified electrotechnician who is familiar with:
– the installation and operation of electrical control systems,
– the applicable regulations for operating safety engineering systems,
– the applicable regulations for accident protection and industrial safety and
– the documentation for the product.
