... FULL HEADSET ASSEMBLY
5-
Slip the snap ring up to the groove provided on the fork pivot. The snap ring will first
loose its shape as it is slipped onto the pivot of diameter 28.6mm, then it will return
back to its initial shape once snapped into the groove.
à At this stage, the fork and its headset and frame form a single sub-assembly. Proceed further
in the assembly to adjust the functional plays in the headset and fasten the components of the
steering unit (spacers, stem...)
6-
Check that the threaded height adjuster is equipped with a lip seal.
7-
Screw the height adjuster onto the threaded insert and adjust the headset so that no
play remains and that the fork can turn freely without hard point. The snap ring shall
not project above height adjuster's top. If this was the case, check the stacking
of bearings and rings by referring to stage 1. If not, tighten the height adjuster
following instructions of Fig. B in paragraph HEADSET ADJUSTMENT.
à At this stage, the adjusted fork is assembled on the frame and assembly of the other elements
can in no way modify headset adjustment. You now need only to mount the stem into the desired
position to complete assembly.
8-
Add thickness rings (spacers) as necessary according to the desired stem height.
LOOK recommends to put a 5mm spacer between the height adjuster and the stem to
make the passage of adjustment tools possible once the stem is tightened onto the
fork pivot.
9-
Proceed with stem assembly but do not lock it
10-
Add rings as needed (possibly spacers and always the specific upper ring). Draw a
cutting mark on the pivot as shown on Fig. E
11-
Remove the upper spacers, the stem and the spacers under the stem to cut the fork
pivot 1-2mm below the reference mark (according to the diagram of Fig. F).
We recommend you use a hacksaw for cutting tubes.
12-
Put back all spacers and tighten this time the stem onto the fork pivot; make sure to
mount as well the specific ring according to the assembly drawing of Fig. D.
13-
Insert the end cap onto the tube pivot until it comes into contact with the specific ring.
