3.5 – Operating the equipment
Warning: This equipment must be used only by qualified personnel.
The patient must be positioned according to the procedure to be performed to make access to surgical field
easier. The equipment must be positioned in a way that electrode cables are not stretched and avoid
interrupting the medical team circulation.
Positioning should ensure the access to equipment functions and allow the surgeon to see all information
on the front panel, such as lights indicating the function and power levels.
1. Connect the power cable provided with the equipment to connector (30)-APPLIANCE INLET on the
back panel.
2. Set the on/off switch (29) located on the back panel to OFF position.
3. Connect the power plug to a grounded socket (see items 4.2 and 4.3).
4. Set the on/off switch to ON position. On upper right front panel the green led (11)-POWER and the
amber led (12)-STAND BY would switch on to indicate the standby mode.
5. Press once the button (12) - STAND BY to set the electrosurgical unit to operation mode.
Preparation for Monopolar Surgery
Once the equipment is connected to the mains, follow the steps below to prepare the equipment for
monopolar surgery.
Note: see accessories in item 1.6 of this Manual.
1) Connect the FS-12 single footswitch or FS-14 double footswitch to the female connector (28)-
FOOTSWITCH, located on the back panel. The male connector of footswitch should be inserted until a
"click" is heard indicating that the connection is adequate. To remove the footswitch, it is sufficient to
press the button in the actual connector on the back panel while pulling back the male connector.
2) Connect the patient plate cable to the patient plate. PC-10 cable is provided with two threaded pins that
should be threaded to the two threaded stoppers of the reusable stainless steel patient plate that is
usually supplied with the equipment. Should standard, divided or PPM (REM) self-adhesive disposable
patient plates be used, PC-09 cable should be used to connect the grit to the adhesive patient plate latch
(see PPM Function).
Note: SS-200E automatically detects the type of plate used (standard-PLC or divided-PPM).
3) Connect the other end of patient plate cable to terminal (15)-PATIENT on the lower front panel.
4) Connect the handswitch pencil to outlet (17)-ACCESSORY. A simple footswitch-controlled pencil may
also be used, except that the simple pencil pin must be connected to 8-mm output terminal (17)-
ACCESSORY.
Note: Other accessories, such as monopolar forceps, monopolar accessories for video-laparoscopic
surgeries, etc. may also be connected to ACCESSORY outlets.
Cut Function
Pure Cut Function
To use the pure cut function, the desired function should be selected from buttons (20) and (16) to allow
led (2)-PURE to switch on. Upon activating the yellow lever CUT in footswitch, led (4)-CUT switches on
while an acute tone indicating the function is heard. Power control is made through increase (7) or decrease
(3) buttons located on front panel. Display (5) indicates the maximum output power of pure cut in watts (see
item 3.2). It is important to note that the function indicating led (4) will only switch on if there is
radiofrequency power in the accessory tip.
Blend Cut Function
Blend function is constituted of a cut waveform with haemostatic effect. In SS-200E, first of all the mode
should be selected through buttons (20) and (16) to switch on the led corresponding to the Blend level
adequate to the surgical procedure, taking into account that BLEND 1 has a minimum haemostatic effect,
BLEND 2 has a moderate haemostatic effect, and BLEND 3 has a maximum haemostatic effect. Upon
