Interchangeable Distal Attachments (Figure 4)
To use an Iceross liner with an interchangeable distal attachment be sure
to tighten the distal attachment to the liner at 4 Nm (3ft. lbs) using a
torque wrench. To fasten the attachment pin to the distal attachment,
apply Loctite 410/411 or equivalent compound to the threads of the Össur
attachment pin (used with Icelock) and torque to 4 Nm (3ft.lbs). If
excessive movement or product wear is detected between the attachment
pin and the distal attachment (fixed or interchangeable) at any time, the
patient should be instructed to immediately discontinue use of the device
and consult his/her physician or prosthetist.
Trimming an Iceross Liner (Figure 5)
Iceross liners may be trimmed for user preference and to increase range
of motion. The Iceross CurveMaster is specifically designed for this
function and to produce a smooth, rounded edge, which will minimize
the risk of skin irritation and/or tears of the liner. Do not cut the liner
below the level of the matrix or below the proximal trim-lines of the
socket. Excessive trimming may reduce the natural suction between the
liner and limb and/or compromise suspension.
Donning an Iceross Liner
When donning the liner, turn the liner inside out and grip it as shown in
the illustration (Figure 6). If you are donning an Iceross Activa liner make
sure that the TibiaGuard is aligned along the anterior side of the tibia.
Note: Be very careful that the inside of the liner is clean, dry and free
from any foreign objects that can cause skin irritation.
After exposing as much of the distal end of the liner as possible, position
it against the residual limb and with light compression roll upward onto
the limb. Check that no air pockets are present (Figure 7).
Roll the liner all the way up the limb, taking care not to damage it with
fingernails. Do not tug or pull (Figure 8).
When using a liner without a textile cover Iceross Original, Iceross Clean
and Simple lubricant spray can be used to facilitate donning. Spray the
lubricant onto the outer surface of the liner, invert the liner and roll on.
Wipe off any excess lubricant (Figure 9).
If talcum powder is used rather than Iceross Clean and Simple lubricant,
be sure to lightly dust the outside of the liner only.
Iceross Distal Cup
Iceross Distal Cups provide enhanced comfort for conical limbs with
poor soft tissue coverage. They can also be used as a fitting tool in
conjunction with the Iceross Original liners to ensure total contact
between the silicone and residual limb. The dermogel silicone in the
Iceross Distal Cup conforms to the limb, thus minimizing pressure over
the bony prominence during gait.
To correctly fit a Distal Cup:
1. Measure the circumference of the residual limb at 4 cm from the
distal end (Figure 1).
2. Choose the Distal Cup two or three sizes smaller than the
measurement
3. Roll the Distal Cup directly over the limb (Figure 10).
