CAUTION
Risk of injury due to misaligned joint installation. Deviations in the frontal and / or sagittal
plane may cause joint stiffness. Ensure the orthosis ankle joints are always installed parallel.
CAUTION
Results of product deterioration. Wear and tear on system components can lead to malfunction
of the orthotic joint. This can cause the patient to fall. In the interest of the patient's safety, we
recommend inspecting the orthotic joints every six months (refer to Section 3.2 Maintenance).
NOTICE
Risk of breakage due to use of improper materials. The ankle joints have been developed
for the fabrication of AFOs made of thermoplastic material. It is not recommended to use these
ankle joints in lower leg orthoses made in carbon lamination resin technique. Static loads would
be transferred directly into the joints and the stability would be jeopardised.
1.4 Design/Replacement Parts
The 17M1/17M2 Ankle Joints are made of stainless steel. The joints are provided with bearing
pins (17M1) or bearing washers (17M2).
The 17M1 Ankle Joint is to be equipped either with stop screws for limitation of movement or with
compression springs for limitation of movement, e.g. for dorsal flexion.
The 17M2 is a free-motion ankle joint without limitation of movement.
