Mode 1: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 10%.
Typically used for highly transparent targets such as PET bottles.
Mode 2: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 18%.
Typically used for clear glass objects.
Mode 3: Switching when signal attenuation from the transparent object is > 40%.
Typically used for colored glass or opaque objects.
Before starting the teach procedure create a clear path between the sensor and reflec‐
tor. Then turn the potentiometer clockwise past half rotation. The yellow signal LED
on top and back of the sensor will turn off for a moment to indicate that teach has
been initiated. After ~1 second, the yellow LED will start flashing to indicate that the
teach modes are ready. Selection of the desired teach mode is achieved by keeping the
potentiometer in the same past half rotation position for more a given amount of time.
Mode 1: 1...5 seconds
Mode 2: 5...10 seconds
Mode 3: > 10 seconds
Note that the green signal LED on top and back of the sensor will flash one when the
teach mode has changed.
Once the desired teach mode is selected, turn the potentiometer counterclockwise
below half the available rotation. The teach procedure is complete. Check the detection
by moving the transparent target between the sensor and reflector, as illustrated in
Image: G, and confirming the yellow LED changes state when the target is present. If
not, check the alignment and application conditions.
Sensor with potentiometer (with IO Link):
The sensing range is adjusted relative to the background with the potentiometer (type:
270°).
Clockwise rotation: to teach mode; counterclockwise rotation: to run mode.
Before starting the teach procedure create a clear path between the sensor and reflec‐
tor. Turn the potentiometer clockwise to teach mode until yellow LED begins blinking.
Align the sensor to the reflector, using the lightbar to determine the received signal
strength during teach. The more LEDs that are illuminated the strong the light being
returned to the sensor is. The light bar does not need to be fully illuminated in order
for a teach to be successful. Turn the potentiometer counterclockwise to run mode until
yellow LED stops blinking. The yellow LED should remain lit. To test, place an object
between the sensor and the reflector, the yellow LED will turn off.
To change the sensing mode connect over IO-Link.
All behaviors for specific modes (HL18T, G) will still apply.
NOTE
Note that the HL18G lightbar operation is automatically managed via the teach and
AutoAdapt features. An HL18G sensor will always try to maintain the signal such that
only the red and yellow LEDs will be illuminated with a clear view to the reflector.
Please refer to the enclosed operating instructions for the IO-Link photoelectric sensor
for information about adjusting the IO-Link sensing range.
The sensor is adjusted and ready for operation.
