Installation and connection
5.1 Preparing for installation
NOTICE
Interference in function
Improper installation can compromise the function of the
BIR and result in damage.
► No materials containing metal may be in close
proximity of the BIR.
► Be sure to maintain the specified distances and
separations.
Any orientation is permitted. Mount the BIR on a level
surface of the machine using the mounting clamps and
cylinder-head screws.
Mounting clamps are not included in the scope of delivery
and must be ordered separately.
5.2 Installation
For dimensions, see Fig. 4-1 on page 8.
1. Guide the BIR into the mounting clamps.
2. Attach the BIR to the base using mounting screws
(tighten screws in the clamps with max. 2 Nm).
3. Installing target (accessory).
The BIR inductive rapid positioning system is suitable both
for floating, i.e. non-contacting targets (see Fig. 5-3 and
Fig. 5-4) and for guided targets (see Fig. 5-1 and Fig. 5-2).
The functionality of the BIR is only guaranteed
with a target. Two or more targets are not
allowed.

5.2.1 Guided targets
Note when installing the target:
– Avoid lateral forces.
– The distance C between the target and parts made of
magnetizable material must be at least 10 mm (see
Fig. 5-5).
– Connect the target to the machine member with a joint
rod (see Accessories on page 20).
