Introduction
This is the GE Long-Life Door/Window Sensor 868 GEN2 Installation
Instructions for models TX-1211-03-1, TX-1211-03-3, RF1211-03-1,
and RF1211-03-3. You can install the sensor on doors, windows, and
many other objects that open and close. The sensor transmits signals
to the control panel when a magnet mounted near the sensor is
moved away from or closer to the sensor.
Encrypted signals help secure RF communication. The sensor is
equipped with a wall and cover tamper for additional security. You
can extend the battery life of the sensor by adding a second 3-V
lithium battery.
You will need #6 flathead screws and a screwdriver or brad driver to
install the sensor.
Installation guidelines
Use the following installation guidelines:
• Mount the sensor on the door frame and the magnet on the
door. If you use the sensor on double doors, mount the sensor
on the least-used door and the magnet on the other door.
• If possible, Locate sensor within 100 ft. (30 m) of the panel. While
a transmitter may have a range of 500 ft. (150 m) or more out in
the open, the environment at the installation site can have a
significant effect on transmitter range. Sometimes changing the
sensor location helps overcome adverse wireless conditions.
• Make sure the alignment arrow on the magnet points to the
alignment mark on the sensor.
• Place the sensor at least 4.7 in. (12 cm) above the floor to avoid
damaging it.
• Avoid mounting the sensor in areas where it will be exposed to
moisture or where you will exceed the sensor operating
temperature -13 to 120°F (-25 to 49°C).
• Remove internal reed switches not in use.
Installation
Before you mount the sensor, you need to program the sensor into
panel memory and test the mounting location.
Programming
This section describes the general guidelines for programming
(learning) the sensor into the panel memory. Refer to your panel
documentation for complete programming details.
To program the sensor, do the following:
1.
To remove the sensor cover, press a small screwdriver into the

) on the end of the sensor while you lift the
cover.

Insert the battery into the battery holder next to the screw
terminals, observing polarity (

Set the panel to program mode.
4.
Proceed to Learn Sensor menu.
5.
Press and release the tamper switch until the panel responds.
6.
Select the appropriate sensor group and sensor number.
7.
Exit program mode.
Communication test
Before you mount the sensor, test the sensor mounting location to
make sure it provides good RF communication to the panel.
To verify communication, do the following:
1.
Put the panel/receiver into sensor test mode.
2.
Take the sensor to the mounting location.
3.
Hold the magnet next to the arrow on the end of the sensor (
in Figure
3
), then pull the magnet away from the sensor.
4.
Listen for siren beeps to determine appropriate response. Refer
to your panel/receiver documentation.
5.
Exit sensor test mode.
Mounting
To mount the sensor, do the following:
1.
Mount the sensor base with the two #6 flathead screws or use
brads at the mounting hole locations (

Line up the arrow on the magnet with the arrow at the end of
the sensor (

Remove unused reed switches. Clip the leads as close to the
board as possible.

Mount the magnet base no more than 0.4 in. (1 cm) away from
the sensor base. Replace the magnet cover.

External contact wiring
Use the following specifications for the external contact:
• Maximum wire length: 8 m (26 ft.).
• Wire: Stranded, 22-gauge (0.7112 mm).
• Switches: Hermetically sealed external switches (sealed reed
switch) that supply a minimum 250 milliseconds open or close
on alarm.
Note: Do not connect more than five external contacts to a door/
window sensor.
You can wire the terminal blocks on the sensor (
leads from an external contact. Contact includes both alarm and
tamper indication. The external contact is wired with two 4.7 Kohm
end-of-line (EOL) resistors; one in series with, and one across the
external contact (

the external detection device for proper supervision. This gives the
following readings for a normally closed configuration:
Open/short = Tamper
1 R (4700 ohms) = All devices closed (normal)
2 R (9400 ohms) = Alarm (EOL resistor + parallel resistor)
Sensor test
After you install the sensor, test the sensor to verify good communi-
cation between the detector and the panel.
To test the sensor, refer to your panel/receiver documentation and
do the following:
1.
Put the panel/receiver into sensor test mode.
2.
Open the door the sensor is protecting. The sensor transmits a
signal.
3.
Listen for siren beeps to determine appropriate response.
4.
Exit sensor test mode.
Battery replacement
When the system indicates the sensor battery is low, replace it imme-
diately. If two batteries are installed, replace both batteries. Use only
exact replacement batteries (see Specifications) and do not mix old
and new batteries or brands. Dispose of used batteries according to
battery directive instructions and/or instructions from local govern-
ment authorities.
To replace the batteries, do the following:
