Special Techniques
Setting the Record Level
Setting the recording level correctly is very
important if you want to make good quality
recordings. If the level is excessively low or
high, the recording will be noisy or distorted.
Generally, the recording level should be
adjusted so that the strongest signals to be
recorded make the meters indicate 0 VU or
so.
With a little time and practice you will be
able to adjust the critical recording level.
The type and condition of the tape, as well
as the type of music source you are record-
ing also affects the optimum settings of the
record level.
Three Head System
The three head system means that you can
record on the tape and monitor from it at
the same time — see photo. With the three
head system, you can monitor the source
or off-the-tape signals while recording.
Erasing
Erasing a previously recorded tape will be
automatically done when you make a new
recording
on
it. Alternatively
it can
be
erased by recording on it with MIC and
LINE controls turned down to MIN.
To erase a tape completely in a short time,
TEAC's optional E-2 bulk eraser may also
be used.
Dubbing
Deck-to-deck
copying of tapes (dubbing)
can be done without
using an external
amplifier. Operation is the same as standard
record and playback procedure as described
in the record and playback section.
This deck can be used as the "master" re-
corder with a second recorder used as the
"slave" recorder. Connect the output of the
X-3 to the input of the slave recorder.
To use the X-3 and the second recorder in
Opposite roles, simply reverse the input and
output connections.

This allows you to record over or correct a
recorded section of the tape without stop-
ping the tape first and then selecting record
mode.

Techniques spéciales
Réglage du niveau d'enregistrement
Un réglage correct du niveau d'enregistre-
ment est capital si vous désirez réaliser des
enregistrements de bonne qualité. Si le ni-
veau est exagérément bas ou élevé, |'enregis-
trement sera empreint soit de souffle soit de
distorsion. En régle générale, le niveau d'en-
registrement doit étre réglé de telle facon
que les VU-métres indiquent approximative-
ment 0 VU. Aprés quelque temps et avec un
peu d'entrainement, vous serez vite capable
de régler rapidement le niveau d'enregistre-
ment. Le type et I'état de la bande ainsi que
le genre musical enregistré affectent égale-
ment le réglage optimum du niveau d'enre-
gistrement.
Systéme 4 trois tétes
Le systéme 4 trois tétes signifie que vous
pouvez enregistrer sur la bande et contréler
l'enregistrement dans le méme temps — (voir
photo). Le systéme 4 trois tétes permet la
comparaison immédiate de la source et de la
bande pendant |'enregistrement.
Effacement
L'effacement
d'une
bande
enregistrée
précédemment s'effectue automatiquement
lorsque vous effectuez un nouvel enregistre-
ment.
De méme, l'effacement peut étre
effectué en enregistrant avec les commandes
d'entrée de ligne ou de micros sur minimum.
Pour effacer une bande complétement en un
court
laps de temps, vous pouvez
utiliser
Veffaceur en vrac TEAC E-2, disponible en
option.
Copie de bande
La copie de bande (ou doublage)
d'un
magnétophone
sur |'autre peut s'effectuer
sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'utiliser un ampli-
ficateur extérieur. Le fonctionnement est le
méme
que pour la reproduction et I'enre-
gistrement ordinaires décrits ci-avant.
Le X-3 peut étre utilisé comme magnéto-
phone lecteur, et un autre magnétophone
comme
magnétophone
enregistreur.
Rac-
corder la sortie du X-3 a l'entrée de I'autre
magnétophone.
Pour inverser les rdles des magnétophones, i!
suffit d'inverser les connexions d'entrée et
de sortie.
Surenregistrement
En
cours
de reproduction,
vous
pouvez
passer directement de la lecture a I'enregis-
trement en maintenant la touche de lecture
( > ) pressée et en appuyant simultanément
sur la touche d'enregistrement (RECORD).
La platine passe alors en enregistrement a
partir de cet endroit précis. Ceci vous per-
met d'enregistrer par dessus ou de corriger
une portion déja enregistrée de la bande sans
avoir 4 interrompre
le défilement de la
bande au préalable puis a sélectionner le
mode enregistrement.
