Risk Assessment
Risk assessment for general risks
Process of risk reduction based on EN 12100
Starting point of
estimating the risk
reduction
S= Severity of injury
S1 = mild lesions (usually reversible)
S2 = serious injuries and death (irreversible)
F= Frequency and /or exposure to hazard
F1 = seldom to less often and / or short duration
F2 = frequent to continuous and / or long duration
P= Possibility of avoiding the hazard
P1 = possible under certain conditions
P2 = scarcely possible
W= Probability of occurrence
W3 = large
³
g once up to < 10 times per year
W2 = moderate
³
g once in 10 years up to < once per year
W1 = small
³
< less than once in 10 years

no action required
mechanical or organizational measures required
guards required (eg. cover, apron protective fence)
simple guards are no longer sufficient, the use of
safety-related control parts is necessary. The
Performance Level (PL) of the control unit is to be set
according to EN 13849 (eg. Light curtain, tactile
protective devices, safety switches, etc.)
