Original Operating Instructions UNIDRIVE
B
UNIDRIVE 3 Descender and Rescue Device
Rescue devices are used for the rescue of people whose means of exit via stairs, ladders or lifts is
blocked due to fire, gas, power failures or other, unforeseeable events.
The UNIDRIVE devices are equipped with centrifugal force brakes which ensure a constant descent
velocity for the person being rescued. The devices are so constructed that the brake unit works com-
pletely independently of the rope unit. Thereby smooth functioning is guaranteed even in bad weather
conditions as no moisture from the ropes affects the brake unit.
As rescue lifting devices, these devices are equipped with an additional lifting function which is neces-
sary for rescue from a safety rope, a ladder rail or for the lifting of a person from a deeper lying posi-
tion.
The technical basis of the rescue lifting device is the European Standard, EN 1496, which has been
developed on the basis of the "European Council Directive 89/686/EEC of the 21
st
of December 1989
for the harmonization of the legal regulations of the Member States relating to personal protective
equipment".
7. General
The manufacturer accepts no liability whatsoever arising from incorrect and / or improper operation or
the unsafe operating condition of the UNIDRIVE during commissioning. Therefore it is very important
that these operating instructions are read and understood. Please do not hesitate to contact the manu-
facturer in the event of queries.
The operating company (owner) of the equipment is obliged to make these operating instructions
available to all operators of the UNIDRIVE and also to ensure that they are read and understood be-
fore commissioning. The Chapters Commissioning, Operating and Warning Information especially are
of great importance for the safe and effective use of the rescue lifting device.
7.1 Correct and Proper Use
The UNIDRIVE can be used as a descender and rescue lifting device.
As a descender and rescue lifting device, one, two people together or several people one after the
other (in shuttle operation) can descend vertically at a restricted speed from a high to a lower lying po-
sition. In addition, one person with the aid of an assistant can be pulled up vertically from a low posi-
tion to a higher lying position or an assistant can travel to a person to be rescued, collect him and
travel off together with him.
