MAINTENANCE
OIL CHANGE
•
Drain the oil while the engine is still warm to ensure quick and complete draining.
•
Remove the oil filler cap and drain the oil.
•
Fill with the recommended oil (see start-up) and check the level.
Oil capacity: 0.6 L.
Wash your hands with soap and water after handling used oil.
Note: Dispose of used motor oil in an environmentally friendly manner. We recommend taking it
in a sealed container to your local service to
your recovery. Do not throw it in the trash or pour it on the ground.
AIR FILTER
•
A dirty air filter will limit air flow to the carburetor. To avoid problems, service the air filter
periodically. Service more often when using the engine in very dusty areas.
•
Never use gasoline or low flash point solvents to clean the air filter element. It could cause
a fire or explosion.
CAUTION: Never run the engine without the air filter.
This will wear out the engine.
- Remove the wing nut and air filter cover. Take out the items and separate them.
Carefully check both items for holes or tears and replace them if damaged.
- Foam element: Clean it with warm soapy water, rinse it and let it dry well. You can also clean it
with a high flash point solvent and let it dry. Immerse the element in a clean, moistened engine
during initial start-up if too much oil remains in the foam.
- Paper element: Tap it several times on a hard surface to remove excess dirt or blow compressed
air through the filter from the inside out. Never try to remove dirt with a brush, as this could
force it into the fibers.
FUEL FILTER COVER CLEAN
•
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive under certain conditions. Do not smoke or
allow flames or sparks in the area.
•
Turn the fuel valve to the OFF position and remove the fuel strainer cup and O-ring.
•
Wash removed parts in solvent, dry thoroughly, and reinstall securely. Turn the fuel valve
ON and check for leaks.
SPARK PLUGS
•
Recommended spark plug: BPR5ES (NGK) or W16EPR-U (NIPPONDENSO).
•
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits.
•
Remove the spark plug cap. Be careful if the engine has been running, as the muffler will be very hot.
•
Visually inspect the spark plug. Discard if insulation is cracked or peeling.
•
Measure the spark plug gap with a feeler gauge. It should be 0.7 to 0.8 mm (0.028 to 0.031 in).
Correct as necessary by bending the side electrode.
•
Install the plug washer. Screw the cap on by hand to prevent it from twisting.
•
When installing a new spark plug, screw in 1/2 more thread with the wrench after compressing the
washer. If it's an old one, just screw in 1/8 - 1/4 more thread.
CAUTION: The spark plug must be tightened properly. An improperly tightened plug can become very hot
and damage the engine. Never use a spark plug with an improper configuration.
CLUTCH CABLE ADJUSTMENT
•
Measure the free play at the tip of the lever. Free play should be 3-8 mm (0.1-0.3 inch).
•
If the free play is incorrect, loosen the jam nut and turn the adjusting bolt in or out as necessary.
•
After adjustment, tighten the locknut firmly. Then start the engine and check that the clutch lever
works correctly.
THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT
•
Measure the free play at the tip of the lever. Free play should be 5-10 mm (0.2-0.4 inches).
•
If the free play is incorrect, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting nut in or out as necessary.
•
After adjustment, tighten the locknut firmly.
BELT TENSION ADJUSTMENT
•
Standard belt tension is 60 to 65 mm (2.4 to 2.6 inches) at the tensioner pulley with the clutch.
•
To adjust, loosen the four engine mounting bolts and the engine mount clamping bolt. Move the
motor forward or reverse to obtain the proper belt tension.
•
Note: After adjusting the tension, make sure the outside face of the drive pulley is flush with the
outside face of the driven pulley using a straight gauge.
•
Loosen the belt stopper fixing screws.
•
Adjust the slack between the belt stop and the belt with the clutch lever depressed.
