2 Safety

2 Safety
This chapter conveys significant information on safe operation of the product. Before using the system for the
first time, please thoroughly read these operating instructions and make sure that every user is familiar with
its contents.
• Before using the system for the first time, please read these operating instructions carefully. They provide
you with all the information required for trouble-free and safe operation.
• Before carrying out specific work, for example putting into operation, operation, transport and
maintenance, read the operating instructions and be sure to follow them.
2.1 Designated use
• The device described in these instructions may be used only for the purpose described in these
instructions in the manner described. In doing so, observe the operating, maintenance and servicing
conditions.
• Any other use is considered contrary to the designated use.
• Unauthorized conversions or power increase modifications are not allowed.
2.2 Responsibilities of the user
• Keep the operating instructions within easy reach at the device for reference and enclose the operating
instructions when handing over the product.
• Putting into operation, operating and maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified
personnel. Qualified personnel are persons who, based on their special training, knowledge,
experience and due to their knowledge of the relevant standards, are able to assess the tasks assigned
to them and identify possible dangers (in Germany see TRBS 1203).
• Keep other persons out of the work area.
• Please observe the accident prevention regulations of the country in question.
• Ensure good lighting of the work area and keep the work area clean.
Observe in particular the following standards and directives:
• 89/391/EEC: Implementation of measures for improving safety and health requirements for workers at
work.
• 89/655/EEC: Minimum safety and health requirements for the use of work equipment by workers at
work.
• DIN EN 60974-4: Equipment for arc welding part 4: Periodic inspection and checking
• DIN EN 60974-9: Equipment for arc welding part 9: Set up and operation.
• Occupational health and safety regulations of the country in question. For example, Germany:
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health
• Regulations on occupational safety and accident prevention.
• According to DIN EN 60974-10, this device is considered class A welding equipment. The class A
welding equipment is not intended for use in residential areas with a public low-voltage power supply
system. Such use can cause electromagnetic interferences that may result in machine damage and
malfunctions. Use the device only in industrial areas.
• The device conforms to EN/IEC 61000-3-11.
• This device complies with the standard DIN EN 61000-3-12, provided the maximum allowed system
impedance ZMAX at the interface between the supply line of the user and the public system is smaller
or equal to 0.038 ohms for iROB P 500, 0.06 ohms for iROB P 400. It is the installer's or operator's
responsibility to ensure, if necessary by consultation with the distribution network provider, that the
device is only connected to a connection that has a maximum allowed system impedance of less than or
equal to 0.038 ohms for iROB P500, 0.06 ohms for iROB P 400.
