7. Check the belay lanyards used with the derope™
UP B and UP K descenders: check the rope,
connectors, and the length adjustment device.

8. Check all the products associated in accordance
with the recommendation given in their respective
manuals.
9. Check that the derope™ descender has been
covered by a periodic inspection over the past 12
months.
10. Check that the derope™ descender has the required
potential for the number of consecutive descents,
descent height and evacuation load to carry out the
operation planned: see table 2 of § 7-1.
DANGER: If any anomaly is observed during
these checks, the unit must be consigned to
prevent any use, and should be submitted for repair
by a trained, qualified repair technician (see § 10-1).
6.3. Installing the derope™ descender
6.3.1. derope™ STD and derope™ UP A
descenders
1. Identify or prepare the fastening point to receive the
derope™ descender
2. Make sure that the fastening point complies with
EN 795 or has a capacity of at least 10 kN (1 ton).
3. Secure the derope™ descender by its upper
connector to the fastening point to be used for
the rescue operation, above the person to be
evacuated.
4. Lock the connector.
5. Throw the rope down, making sure that it is not
tangled or has any knots, that it does not rub against
a sharp edge and that it reaches the ground.
6. Check that there are no obstacles along the
evacuation path and on the reception area.
Examples: electrical wires, concrete strengthening
iron rods, glazed surface.
6.3.2. derope™ UP B descender (Fig.6)
1. Place the large locking bracket on the ladder bar in
the position chosen to carry out the rescue operation
above the person to be evacuated (Fig.6, 1).
2. Push up the locking slide at the ladder bar
immediately below the bar receiving the large
bracket (Fig.6, 2).
3. Tighten the locking pin securing the slide using the
clamping knob located on the side of the bracket
(Fig.6, 3).
4. Install the belay lanyard:

– Secure the connector of the adjustment device
LCM 05 in the hole at the top of the fastening pin
(Fig.6, 4.1).
– Run the belay lanyard around the ladder bar
located above the bracket, going around one of the
ladder uprights (Fig.6, 4.2).
– Connect the belay lanyard connector in the
connector of the adjustment device LCM 05 (Fig.6,
4.3).
– Tension the belay lanyard by pulling on the free
strand (Fig.6, 4.4).
5. Throw the rope down, making sure that it is not
tangled or has any knots, that it does not rub against
a sharp edge and that it reaches the ground.
6. Check that there are no obstacles along the
evacuation path and on the reception area.
Examples: electrical wires, concrete strengthening
iron rods, glazed surface.
7. Align the derope™ descender as may be required,
modifying the position of the fastening pin in the
indexing device (Fig.6, 7.1 – 7.2).

6.3.3. derope™ UP K descender (Fig. 7)
1. Place the small support bracket on the ladder bar
in the position required to carry out the rescue
operation above the person to be evacuated (Fig.7,
1).
2. Tighten the locking pin located at the back of the
support bracket using the clamping knob (Fig.7, 2).
