Installation and connections
4.1 - General procedure for installing, connecting, programming and
testing all system devices
Important! – Carefully follow the sequence of operations below.
01. Check whether the control unit has the "Photocell" output (refer to
its instruction manual):
• if it does not have the "Phototest" output, disconnect electrical
power to the system;
• if it does have the "Phototest" output and the user wishes to install
a photo-optical edge, command a manoeuvre, time it and note down
the result. Finally, disconnect electrical power to the system.
02. Fix all the necessary sensitive edges to the door of the gate (refer to
their respective instruction manuals). Warning – the photo-optical
edges may only be installed if the unit has the "Phototest" output.
03. Remove the back cover of each TCW1/2 sensor. Temporarily secure
each cover to the leaf of the gate, near the area of e ach sensitive
edge configured for electrical connections (see fig. 2).
04. Only perform this step if a photo-optical edge has been installed: in
Table 1, choose how long the sensitive edges will remain active for
from the moment a manoeuvre begins. Warning – The time must be
slightly longer than the duration of the manoeuvre as measured in
point 01. If you choose a shorter time than the manoeuvre, the edge
will stop the leaf during a manoeuvre, before it is completed.
After the selection, insert the jumpers in each TCW1/2 sensor, using
the same configuration for all, combined with the chosen time.
05. Connect each TCW1/2 sensor to the wires of the relative sensitive
edge, as shown in fig. 3.
06. Access the automation unit (see its instruction manual) and connect
the IRW interface to the unit, referring to paragraphs 4.2.1, 4.2.2 and
4.2.3. Important! – If the unit has the "Phototest" output, it is advis-
able to use this output to connect the interface.
07. Move all the TCW1/2 sensors towards the IRW interface and pro-
gram each sensor as explained in paragraph 5.1.
08. Temporarily position each TCW1/2 sensor in its holder. Place the
IRW antenna in a favourable position to ensure good reception/
transmission. Finally, check the correct operation of all system de-
vices, by TESTING the whole "wireless" connection system, as de-
scribed in Chapter 6.
09. At the end of the TEST, secure each sensor permanently in its holder,
as shown in fig. 9. Secure the IRW interface near the unit, ensuring
it is suitably protected. Finally, secure the antenna using the double-
sided tape supplied in the position established during testing.
4.2 - Connecting the IRW interface
The IRW interface can be connected to both units equipped with a "Phototest"
output and units without this output. For safety reasons, it is always advisable
to use the "Phototest" output if present.
The devices that make up the "wireless" connection system may fall into Cat-
egory 2 for fault safety (according to EN 13849-1), only when connected to a
unit that is able to carry out the "channel test" i.e. check correct operation of the
relays, before starting a manoeuvre, as envisaged by the EN 13849-1 standard
Therefore, if your unit has an output dedicated to this "test" (on Nice
units, this is the "Phototest" output), it is advisable to connect the IRW
interface here in order to ensure that the whole automation, including
the wireless connection, falls into Category 2 of the aforementioned
standard. If in doubt, do not use the product and ask the Nice technical as-
sistance service for clarification.
For wiring, refer to Table 2 and Table 3.
4.2.1 - Connecting to a unit with a "Phototest" output
Fig. 4 shows an example of how the IRW interface can be connected to a
control unit with the "Stop" input and equipped with the "Phototest" output.
4.2.2 - Connecting to a unit without a "Phototest" output
Fig. 5 shows an example of how the IRW interface can be connected to a unit
with the "Alt" and "Alt 1" inputs but without the "Phototest" output.
Note to fig. 5 – This "in series" connection does not guarantee Category 2
for fault safety (according to the EN 13849-1 standard), as it does not allow
the system to detect any fault on the output relays. The connection is, though,
just as effective as, if a single relay fails, safety is guaranteed by the other relay.
4.2.3 - Specific connection
