- If the pump is installed as part of a municipal
potable (drinking) water system prevention of
backflow must be observed. Please refer to local
codes.
- For connection to a private water supply it is rec-
ommended a suction strainer be installed to pro-
tect the pump
CAUTION! Possible damage of the pump
Bear in mind that the altitude of the place of in-
stallation and the water temperature may reduce
the suction head of the pump.

7.2 Electrical connection

WARNING! Electrical shock hazard!
Dangers caused by electrical energy must be ex-
cluded.
• Electrical work by a qualified electrician only!
• All electrical connections must be performed
after the electrical supply has been switched off
and secured against unauthorized switching.
• For safe installation and operation a proper
grounding of the pump to the power supply's
grounding terminals is required.
- The operating voltage and frequency are marked
on the nameplate.
- The pump must be connected to the power sup-
ply by a solid cable equipped with a grounded
plug-connection or a main power switch.
- Motors must be connected to an approved motor
starter. The set nominal current of which must
correspond to the electrical data on the pump
name plate
- The supply cable must be laid so that it never
touches the pipework and/or the pump and
motor casing.

- The pump/installation should be grounded in
compliance with local regulations. A ground fault
interrupter can be used as extra protection.
- The connection to the power supply must be in
accordance with the connection plan (Fig. 2).
8. Start up
8.1 Preliminary rinsing
Due to wet testing at the factory it is recom-
mended the pump (and system) be flushed prior
to commissioning.
8.2 System filling - Venting
CAUTION! Possible damage of the pump!
Never operate the pump dry.
The system must be filled before starting the
pump. Ensure that all isolation valves are open.
- The diameter of the suction piping must never be
less than that of the pump. For installations of
the 20 USGPM model where the suction lift is
greater than 20 feet the suction pipe should be
not less than 1" minimum.
- Suction piping shall be as short as possible with a
minimum number of elbows, bends and fittings
etc to avoid suction restrictions
- The inlet piping must be air tight, not allowing
any air to be drawn into the pump during opera-
tion.
- If a rigid pipe is used, provide supports with col-
lars so that the pump does not bear its weight.
- If the pump is in suction : submerge the strainer
(at least 3/4ft / 20 cm), if necessary ballast the
hose.
- Carefully seal the pipes with suitable products.

8.3 Starting up
Flooded Suction Installations (Fig. 4)
- Close the discharge valve (REP. 3).
- Unscrew the filling plug (5).
- Progressively open the suction valve (2) and com-
pletely fill the pump.
- Re-install the filling plug only after water contin-
ually flows with out excessive air.
