2.2
Intended use
Purpose of the device
The measuring system FW300 Ex only serves continuous measurement of
dust concentrations in dust/gas mixtures.
2.3
Restrictions of use
WARNING: Explosion hazard in potentially explosive atmospheres
Only use the measuring system in potentially explosive atmospheres
according to the device identification.
Only use the measuring system within the temperature limits as
specified in these Operating Instructions as well as on the type
plate.
The specified values must not be exceeded even for brief periods.
Do not install the sender/receiver unit and rotary reflector in lines,
tanks, or other installation areas where explosive gas and/or dust
mixtures may be present.

For devices used in potentially explosive atmospheres:
Installation, commissioning, maintenance and testing may be per-
●
formed only by experienced persons who have knowledge of the
rules and regulations for potentially explosive atmospheres, particu-
larly: Types of protection, installation rules and zone classification.
Standards to be applied (examples):
●
– IEC 60079-14, Annex F: Knowledge, expertise and competence of
responsible persons, craftsmen and designers.
– IEC 60079-17: Electrical installations inspection and mainte-
nance
– IEC 60079-19: Equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation

Product description
WARNING: Explosion hazard
The purge air units may only be used and installed according to their
●
specifications.
The associated Operating Instructions for fan and fan motor apply with-
out restrictions.
The air transported by the fan must not contain any explosive com-
●
ponents (suction only from the safe area).
If the measuring location environment is defined as an Ex zone, only
●
antistatic purge air hoses may be used.
2.5
Assembly and Installation
WARNING:
Observe the relevant safety regulations as well as the safety notices
in Section 1 during all assembly work.
Carry out assembly work on equipment with hazard potential (gases
detrimental to health, hot, aggressive or explosive gases or gas/dust
mixtures, higher internal duct pressure) only when the equipment is
at a standstill.
Take (use) suitable protective measures against possible local or
installation-specific hazards.
WARNING: Explosion hazard
Strictly observe and adhere to the use restrictions.
WARNING: Explosion hazard
The weatherproof covers for the analyzer and external purge air unit
may not be installed inside the Ex zone.
WARNING: Explosion hazard
The plant operator is responsible for a safe purge air supply that meets
the explosion protection requirements.
The air transported by the fan must not contain any explosive
components.
Ensure the purge air is never suctioned from the Ex zone (valid for all
purge air units).
Only use antistatic purge-air hoses if the measuring location
environment is defined as an Ex zone.
Observe and adhere to the information in the separate Operating
Instructions for the fan and fan motor.
2.6
Commissioning and parameterization
WARNING:
The transmitter/receiver unit has to be opened for focusing.
Carry out focusing at a site outside the Ex zone.
WARNING: Explosion hazard
Only connect the PC/laptop to the RS 232 interface in the terminal
box of the connection unit for zones 1 and 2 or to the socket in the
connection unit for zone 22 when it is verifiable that no explosion
hazard exists.
2.7
Troubleshooting
WARNING: Explosion hazard
Only open the flameproof enclosures of the sender/receiver unit
and connection unit outside the Ex zone.
Disconnect the measuring system from the power supply before
opening the terminal box of the connection unit for zones 1 and 2
(gas) or the terminal box of the connection unit for zone 22 (dust)
and before connecting/disconnecting cables.
Only check voltages when no Ex conditions exist (plant out of opera-
tion or connection unit outside the Ex zone).
