DO NOT clamp, knot, or prevent the RPL from functioning normally.
DO NOT lengthen the RPL by connecting a lifeline or similar component.
DO NOT alter the RPL configuration in any manner. Use it only as originally supplied.
Remove from service any equipment that has been subjected to fall arrest forces or that exhibits damage consistent with such forces, including but
not limited to component wear, missing parts, broken rope strands.
Ensure the original rope end label is legible and intact. Ensure the sewn end terminations are intact and show no excessive wear or deterioration.
5. SPECIFICATIONS
See Table 1.
6. MAINTENANCE, SERVICE, AND STORAGE
6.1 Maintenance: Ensure the RPL is kept free of excess paint, grease, dirt or other contaminants as this may cause the rope to jam in the rope
adjuster. Clean the unit as required with a soap and water solution. After cleaning, allow the unit to air dry.
Clean labels as required.
DO NOT use heat to dry.
DO NOT attempt to disassemble the RPL.
6.2 Service: If the Kernmantle rope is damaged, the label missing, or the end termination stitching worn, the rope may be replaced. Return the unit
to an authorized FallTech distributor.
6.3 Storage: Hang the RPL in a cool, dry, clean environment out of direct sunlight. Avoid exposure to chemical or caustic vapors. Thoroughly
inspect the RPL after any period of extended storage.
7. INSPECTION
7.1 Pre‐Use Inspection: Perform an inspection before each use. Kernmantle rope is made up of two parts, the outer sheath, and the inner core.
Inspect the sheath for cuts, burns, and soft zones, as shown in Figure 6. Each condition has three levels. Terminal damage is indicated by a
triangular symbol.
Inspect the core for visible hernias, internal bulges, and flat parts. Each of these three conditions is a terminal fault, as indicated by the triangular symbol.
Inspect for sheath slippage. Terminal conditions are indicated by triangular symbols.
Ensure no connectors are bent, cracked, or missing parts. Ensure the connectors close and lock automatically. Ensure the termination label is intact
and legible. Ensure the rope adjustor is free of cracks, bent or broken parts, and that the thumb lever and cam lock moves freely and is not bent or
otherwise damaged. Inspect the termination end thimble and ensure it is as supplied, with no breaks, cracks, or signs of chemical or thermal
damage, and warping. Ensure the TowerClimber® Rope Positioning Lanyard functions as supplied.
7.2 Inspection Frequency: OSHA 1910.269, OSHA 1926.502, and ANSI Z359.3 require an inspection by the Authorized Person before each use. In
addition, an inspection by a competent person at regular intervals is required.
7.3 Inspection Results: If an inspection reveals defects in or damage to the equipment, or inadequate maintenance, mark as "UNUSABLE" and
remove the equipment from service.
7.4 Inspection Document: Record inspection results on the Inspection Record provided in Appendix B, or on a similar document.
8. LABELS
Labels must be present and legible.
