Section 2 – Storage, Maintenance and Inspection

2.1 - Storage

This system should be stored in a cool, dry location not exposed to direct sunlight. Ensure that the
storage location does not expose the system to harsh chemicals, solvents, paints or petroleum products.
Exposure to contaminants may damage the system. Before storing the system, ensure that the rope is
free from knots and tangles. Rope should be stored in a coil or in a figure-8.
This system is designed to provide a temporary fall arrest anchorage: It is not intended for prolonged
installation. Prolonged exposure to the elements may cause degradation of the rope, webbing or
hardware. Be sure to thoroughly inspect before each use. A storage bag has been provided for your
convenience.
2.2 – Maintenance
All components of the system should be kept clean and free of excessive dirt and other contaminants
such as oil, paint and other substances with which it may come in contact. Each of the components can
easily be cleaned with a clean, damp cloth or with a mild solution of soap and water. Be sure to wipe
excess moisture off of all metal components and parts, and allow the rope and webbing to air dry. Avoid
saturating the rope as well as the webbing in the anchor slings.
Once all components have been cleaned and allowed to dry, they are ready to be stored or put back
into service.
2.3 – Inspection
Be sure to thoroughly inspect each component of the system prior to each use. This system must also
be inspected by a competent person at least once every six months.
-
Inspect all metal components for signs of corrosion, distortion or cracking.
-
Inspect all rope and webbing components for evidence of wear to include fraying, cuts, burns,
contamination as well as for loose or torn stitching.
-
Inspect the tensioner for proper function and ensure that it is properly engaged prior to use.
-
Inspect the integral swivel on the lifeline end to ensure that it swivels freely, is free of cracks, corrosion
and distortion. Also ensure that there is no fraying or excessive wear of the rope around the base of
the swivel.
-
Inspect carabiners and ensure that there are no signs of corrosion, distortion or cracking, and that the
gates close and lock automatically.
If any element of the system exhibits signs of wear, damage, corrosion or distortion, or if it appears to
have been (or is known to have been) involved in a fall event, it must be immediately removed from
