Donning the Fire Helmet

To don the fire helmet, follow these steps, as applicable, for your fire helmet's components.
Testing and training exercises (e.g., flashover and/ or high heat training) may damage the fire helmet.
To help prevent such damage, always use an MSA Cairns Fire Helmet Training Cover (P/N 10207280
for Modern Fire Helmet, P/N 10207281 for Traditional Fire Helmet). Read all Instructions and Warn-
ings in the MSA Cairns Fire Helmet Training Cover Installation Instructions prior to use.
3.1

Nape Adjustment

3.1.1

Models 1010 and 1044, Black Impact Cap Only

The nape (where the ratchet is located) has three location settings. Do the following to adjust the nape
setting:
NOTICE
If the speedy button is not in the same channel setting on both sides of the fire helmet, the fire helmet
may not sit on the head properly.
3.1.2

Model 880 and Modern Fire Helmets

The back portion of the nape (where the ratchet is located) has three location settings. Do the following
to adjust the headband setting:
(1)
Depress and hold the nape arm, then slide the speedy button
to one of the three channel settings.
(2)
With the speedy button in the desired position, release the
nape arm.
(3)
Repeat these steps on the other side of the fire helmet, so the
speedy button is in the same position on both sides.
(1)
Unsnap the ratchet arm.
(2)
Move the ratchet arm to the desired hole.
(3)
Snap the ratchet arm, and make sure it is secure.
