Malfunction
Fluttering spray fan pat-
tern
Spray pattern too small,
slanted, one-sided or split.
Flat fan control does not
work.
Flat fan control cannot be
regulated.
Automatic gun does not
shut air off.
Corrosion on air cap
thread, material passage
or nozzle head.
Air leaks from inspection
hole of material flow con-
trol or regulating cap.

Cause
Fluid tip not properly tight-
ened.
Air distribution ring soiled
or damaged.
Loose air cap.
Gap between air cap and
fluid tip is clogged.
Nozzle set is soiled.
Damaged nozzle set.
Air cap hole clogged with
paint.
Damaged fluid tip (fluid tip
aperture).
Air distribution ring not in
correct position.
Air distribution ring dam-
aged.
Overwound control. Loose
spindle.
Soiled control piston seat
or worn seal retainer.
Control air pressure is
constantly present.
Unsuitable cleaning solu-
tion.
Defective seal retainer (air
side).
Defective seal or sleeve.
Corrective action
Tighten fluid tip.
Replace air distribution ring
(see chapter 10.2).
Tighten air cap ring by
hand.
Clean gap.
Clean nozzle set.
Replace nozzle set (see
chapter 10.1)
Clean air cap (see chapter
10.1).
Check fluid tip for damage.
Replace nozzle set if nec-
essary (see chapter 10.1).
Put air distribution ring in
correct position (see chap-
ter 10.2).
Replace air distribution ring
(see chapter 10.2).
Remove spindle, unlock
and install again. Replace
spindle if necessary (see
chapter 10.4).
Clean control piston seat.
Replace seal retainer if
necessary (see chapter
10.8).
Release control air pres-
sure.
Replace nozzle head. Heed
cleaning instructions (see
chapter 10.3).
Replace paint needle seal
retainer (see chapter 10.3).
Replace seal or sleeve (see
chapter 10.7).
