Checking Oil System
1. Set up Machine on stand or bench.
2. Slide Draw Tray and Insert Tray out of Chip Pan (Fig. 2).
3. Fill reservoir in Chip Pan with approximately 5 liters of RIDGID Thread
Cutting Oil. Reinstall Draw Tray and insert Tray.
4. Plug Power cord into outlet. Voltage of outlet must be the same as
voltage indicated on tag and Nameplate.
5. Place Die Head in UP position.
6. Turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to FOR (forward) position.
7. Step on Foot Switch. Oil will flow.
Installing Pipe
1. Measure and mark length of pipe to be worked.
2. If pipe is long enough to be retained by Centering Device, insert pipe
through front or rear of Machine. If pipe is short, insert into front of
machine.
NOTE: For pipe which extends 2 m or more beyond the rear Centering
Device support the end of the pipe with a No. 92 Adjustable Pipe
Support.
3. Make sure that pipe is centered in Centering Device, if used, and close
Centering Device until jaws engage pipe. Secure Centering Device hand
tight only.
4. Tighten Chuck Jaws with a repetitive counterclockwise snap spin of
Handwheel. This hammering action tightens Jaws on pipe. A clockwise
rotation snap spin releases Jaws.
Cutting pipe with No. 764 cutter (Fig. 5)
1. Swing Reamer and Die Head back to out-of-way position. (Fig. 5)
2. Place Shift Knob in 36 rpm position. (Fig. 2).
CAUTION: Shifting should be done with machine idling. DO NOT operate
Shift Knob while udner load.
3. Move pipe cutter down onto pipe and move Carriage with Handwheel to
line up Cutter Wheel with mark on pipe.
4. Tighten Cutter Feed Screw Handle on pipe.
5. Turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to FOR (forward) position and step on Foot
Switch.
6. Continuously turn Cutter Feed Screw Handle with both hands until pipe is
cut off.
7. Release Foot Switch and turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to OFF position.
8. Return Pipe cutter to out-of-way position.
Reaming pipe with No. 744 reamer
1. Move Reamer Arm down into reaming (latched) position. (Fig. 6)
2. Turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to FOR position and step on Foot Switch.
3. Place Shift Knob in 36 rpm position.
CAUTION: Shifting could be done with machine idling. DO NOT operate
Shift Knob while under load.
4. Position Reamer into pipe and complete reaming by exerting modest
pressure on Handwheel.
NOTE: Do not apply excessive pressure on Handwheel.
5. Release Foot Switch and turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to OFF position.
6. Return Reamer to out-of-way position.
7. Release Chuck Handwheel and Centering Device from pipe.
8. Remove pipe.
Threading pipe or rod with Nos. 711 and 911 self-opening Die Heads for
R.H.
Threading and No. 713 and 913 quick-opening Die Heads for L.H.
Threading
1. Install Die Ste. Refer to Die Installation procedure.
2. Swing Cutter and Reamer to out-of-way position.
3. Swing Die Head down with Throwout Lever set to "CLOSE" position
(Fig. 7 or 8).
4. Position Shift Knob.
CAUTION: Shifting should be done with machine idling. DO NOT operate
Shift Knob while under load.
NOTE: Shift Knob is in 36 rpm position when threading 2" standard pipe
or less. When threading 2-1/2" to 4" standard pipe or other high torque
applications such as stainless steel pipe or 30 RC rod, SHift Knob must
be in 12 rpm position.
CAUTION: If Shift Knob is in 36 rpm position and machine stalls,
immediately release Foot Switch. Position knob to 12 rpm position.
Repeated stalling may damage motor.
5. Turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to FOR position for R.H. threading and REV
for L.H. threading and step on Foot Switch.
6. Turn Carriage Handwheel to bring Dies against end of pipe. Pressure on
Handwheel will start Dies.
7. Quick-Opening Die Head (Fig. 7). When thread is completed, raise
Throwout Lever to open head position, retracting Dies.
Self-opening Die Head (Fig. 8). When Die Head Trigger contacts end of
pipe, Throwout Lever is automatically opened on tapered threads.
NOTE: Throwout Lever must be pushed open on straight threads.
8. Release Foot Switch and turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to OFF position.
Turn Carriage Handwheel to back Die Head off.
9. Release latch on 713 or 913 Die Head (Fig. 9) and swing Die Head to
out-of-way position. Push Lever on Die Head to close Dies in threading
position.
Threading pipe with Nos. 714 and 914 receding Die Head (NPT/BSPT)
1. Install Die Set. Refer to Die Installation procedure.
2. Swing Cutter and Reamer to out-of-way position.
3. With Die Head in UP position, push on Cam Locking Plate Handle
(Fig. 10) until Release Foot latches in Die Head Body.
4. Position Shift Knob.
CAUTION: Shifting should be done with machine idling. DO NOT operate
Shift Knob while under load.
NOTE: Shift Knob is in 36 rpm position when threading 2" pipe or less.
When threading 2-1/2" to 4" pipe, Shift Knob must be in 12 rpm position.
5. Turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to FOR position and step on Foot Switch.
6. Swing Die Head down to threading position (Fig. 11).
7. Turn Carriage Handwheel counterclockwise to bring Die Head against
end of pipe in one continuous motion. The Release Foot will unlatch
and actuate the receding mechanism. Continue to apply pressure to
Handwheel to start dies.
8. At end of cut receding mechanism will automatically open Dies.
NOTE: To remove Die Head part way through a thread, loosen Size
Adjusting Nut and manually retract Dies by rotating Cam Plate. Lift Cam
Locking Plate Handle to latch Release Foot. Back Die Head off pipe and
reset size.
9. Release Foot Switch and turn REV/OFF/FOR Switch to OFF position.
Turn Carriage Handwheel clockwise to back Die Head off.
10. Swing Die Head to up position and relatch Release Foot in Die Hard
body. Receding mechanism in Carriage will automatically return to its
starting position.
Threading pipe with Nos. 714 and 914 Die Heads (NPSM/BSPP)
1. Remove Release Foot Screw from Release Foot Pivot Block (Fig. 12).
Rotate Release Foot until hole in foot lines up with screw hole in Pivot
Block. Reinsert Screw until it engages Release Foot (Fig. 13).
2. Loosen Screw on Lockout Plate and slide lockout plate clockwise
(Fig. 14) until latch is exposed. Retighten Screw.
3. Push Sine Bar in Carriage to far right hand end of Carriage and rotate
Sine Bar Latch around until it latches in hole on end of Carriage (Fig. 13).
