Using the Smart Guard System
(Fig. 59)
The Bosch Smart Guard System 11 has been
designed for modularity, enabling the use of
multiple combinations of the three main com-
ponents: the Riving Knife 24, the Barrier Guard
Assembly 25, and the Anti-Kickback Device 26.
The Riving Knife 24 can be quickly adjusted to
any of three positions for different applications:
through cut (high), non-through cut (middle),
and dado (lowest).
The three primary components of the Smart
Guard blade guarding system are designed for
rapid attachment, adjustment, and removal
without additional tools.
If you remove any Smart Guard System 11 com-
ponents to complete a cut, immediately reinstall
them when finished. (See "Attaching the Barrier
Guard Assembly" on page 20 for detailed in-
stallation instructions.)
Always remember that the best accident preven-
tion is the operator's use of common sense and
alertness at all times when using the table saw.

Riving Knife (Splitter)
(Fig. 1, Fig. 10, Fig. 59, Fig. 60)
The Riving Knife is the central element of the
Bosch blade guarding Smart Guard System 11,
which serves as the attachment point for both
the Barrier Guard Assembly 25 and the Anti-
Kickback Device 26.
If the Barrier Guard Assembly 25 and the Anti-
Kickback Device 26 are removed, the Riving
Knife 24 maintains its functionality as material
splitter. It can be quickly adjusted to any of three
positions, depending on the requirement of the
application: through cut, non-through cut, and
dado. Because of this adjustability, the Riving
Knife 24 can be appropriately positioned for all
cutting applications. (See "Adjusting the Riving
Knife" on page 37.)
The Riving Knife (splitter) 24 can be easily ad-
justed to one of three heights by removing the
Table Insert 12, raising the Blade 32 to its full
height and releasing the Riving Knife Release
Lever 41 at the base of the Riving Knife 24. The
Riving Knife 24 should be locked in its through
cut (highest) position for use with the Main Bar-
rier Guard Assembly 25 and Anti-Kickback De-
vice 26. It can be adjusted to its non-through cut
(middle) position for use as a material splitter
without the Main Barrier Guard Assembly 25
and Anti-Kickback Device 26. In the event that
the Riving Knife 24 cannot be used for a specific
cut or for use with a dado blade, it can be ad-
justed to its dado (lowest) position, placing it 1"
(25.4mm) above the Table 13 surface when the
Blade 32 is at its full height.
