Basic Table Saw Operations
3
Using the Rip Fence
(Fig. 1, Fig. 71, Fig. 72, Fig. 78)
For your own safety, always
observe the following safety
precautions in addition to the safety instruc-
tions on pages 3 through 9.
Ripping, Bevel Ripping, Resawing, and Rabbet-
ing are performed using the Rip Fence together
with the Auxiliary Fence 95 / Work Support, Tall
Rip Fence Auxiliary Facing 104, Flip-Over Fence
18, Push Stick 8, or Push Block 94.
1. Never make these cuts Freehand (without
using the Rip Fence 9 or auxiliary devices
when required) because the Blade 32 could
bind in the cut and cause a kickback.
2. Always lock the Rip Fence 9 securely when
in use.
3. Remove Miter Gauge 14 from Table 13 during
any operations which utilize the Rip Fence 9.
4. Make sure Barrier Guard Assembly 25 is in-
stalled for all thru-sawing type cuts. Replace
the guard IMMEDIATELY following comple-
tion of resawing, rabbeting, dadoing or
molding operations.
Frequently check the action of the ANTIKICK-
BACK DEVICE 50 by passing the workpiece
alongside of the Riving Knife (Splitter) 24
while saw is OFF.
Pull the workpiece TOWARD you. If the
PAWLS do not DIG into the workpiece and
HOLD it, then the Pawls 50 must be RE-
PLACED or SHARPENED. (See "Anti-Kick-
back Device Maintenance" on page 60).
5. Have the Blade 32 extend approximately 1/8"
(3.2 mm) above the top of the work piece.
Additional Blade 32 exposure increases the
hazard potential.
6. Do not stand directly in front of the Blade 32
in case of a KICKBACK. Stand to either side
of the Blade 32.
7. Keep your hands clear of the Blade 32 and
out of the path of the Blade 32.
