Special safety equipment must be used on appliances connected to the
pressure regulator to ensure that no dangerous pressure can accumulate
inside them. The pressure relief valve on the pressure regulator is not
suitable for protecting these appliances.

Safety information for working with medical gases

Observe the gas manufacturers' relevant safety information and instructions for use.
Oxygen (O2) increases combustibility and flammability as well as encouraging
flammable materials to burn. Greases and oils (such as those found in hand
creams or lubricants) can ignite on contact with pressurised oxygen. Good
ventilation is absolutely essential. High levels of concentration can be damaging
to health. Smoking and naked flames are forbidden.
Nitrous oxide (N
and flammability as well as encouraging flammable materials to burn. Greases
and oils (such as those found in hand creams or lubricants) can ignite on contact
with pressurised nitrous oxide. High levels of concentration could cause anoxia
and apnoea. Good ventilation is absolutely essential. Smoking and naked flames
are forbidden.
Carbon dioxide (CO
debilitating effect (apnoea) at higher concentrations. Good ventilation is
absolutely essential.
Xenon (Xe) has a strong anesthetic effect. High levels of concentration could
cause anoxia and apnoea. Good ventilation is absolutely essential.
Test gas mixtures consist of mixture of the gases referred to above and may
contain nitrogen monoxide NO, nitrogen N2 and carbon monoxide (CO) (volume
share < 1%). In certain compositions, and depending on the pressure and
temperature of the test gas mixtures and the valve materials, dangerous reaction
and/or decomposition products may occur. Prior to using the test gas mixtures,
it is absolutely essential that you read the gas manufacturers' relevant safety
information and instructions for use and that you ensure that the valves and
fittings you are using are compatible for the relevant gases.
NO/N2 – inhalation gas, gas mixture consisting of nitrogen (N2, 99.92 to
99.98%) and nitrogen monoxide (NO, 0.02 to 0.08%). High concentrations of
both individual gases and the gas mixture may lower the O2 content of the
breathable air and lead to suffocation. Provide good ventilation.

Rules and guidelines

The national laws, regulations and directives for safe handling and operation of
medical products as defined by 93/42/EWG and gas-conducting fittings, for handling
pressurized gases, must also be observed as well as the instructions of the suppliers and
manufacturers of compressed gases and the instructions for connected devices.
