WARNING:
Before attaching a headrest to the Swivel Adaptor,
the unit should be checked to insure that it
is locked. The Pivoting Ball Sleeve (#6 of Figure 1) is
designed to ensure that, when positioned properly, the
Swivel Adaptor will not disengage when in use.
NOTE:
The "LOCK->" label on the Pivot Ball Sleeve (#6 of Figure
1) should face toward the surgeon or away from the
patient when the Base Unit and Swivel Adaptor are in
the locked position (Figure 2). This should be checked
before the Headrest is attached to the Swivel Adaptor.
This will allow the Pivot Handle (#4 of Figure 1) to be
more maneuverable and prevent it from getting entangled
within the Base Unit's Transitional Member and Locking
Handle.
3. Mount Headrest on Ball Socket Swivel Adaptor.
a. Insert Torque Screw (#5 of Figure 1) into the
threaded hole on the MAYFIELD Skull Clamp or
appropriate headrest.
b. Turn Torque Screw clockwise a few turns.
c. Position headrest and tighten Torque Screw fully by
turning clockwise until tight.
CAUTION:
Always be sure the two sets of sunburst teeth
mesh property. Failure to do so may result in damage to
the device.

4. Rotation of Ball Socket Swivel Adaptor.
a. Turn the Pivot Handle (#4 of Figure 1) counter-
clockwise to unlock the Adaptor.
CAUTION:
Care should be taken to stabilize the patient's
head and the headrest while the Swivel Adaptor is
being unlocked and repositioned.
b. Rotate the Swivel Adaptor until desired position is
obtained.
c. Again, turn the Pivot Handle clockwise, applying as
much pressure as possible. The Adaptor should now
be in the locked position.
WARNING:
The unit should be checked to insure that it has
been property locked. In the locked position,
pressure applied in any direction to the patient's head
or headrest WILL NOT result in movement of the Swivel
Adaptor.
5. Release of the Swivel Adaptor.
a. Turn the Pivot Handle 1/4 turn in the counter-
clockwise direction.
b. This action will release the spring-loaded lock of the
Swivel Adaptor.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Once the Adaptor Lock has been set in the locked
position, a 1/4 turn will unlock and re-lock the system.
Spring pressure remains constant within the Pivoting Ball
Sleeve at all times.
Cleaning and Sterilization
After each use, thoroughly clean and wipe the unit with
an antiseptic solution.
DO NOT STEAM STERILIZE !
Plastic components may be damaged by heat.

CAUTIONS
• Alkaline and highly acidic detergents and solutions
cause damage to the devices.
• Channels and crevices found on this device require
particular attention during cleaning.
• Pay special attention to the water quality used
throughout reprocessing. Hard water can damage
the surface of the equipment. Avoid using hard water.
Instead use purified water unless otherwise specified.
Limitations on reprocessing
• Repeated processing has minimal effects on these
devices. Product life is normally determined by wear
and damage due to use.
• It is important to have Integra NeuroSpecialists
perform routine inspections (twice yearly is
recommended). See contact information below.
INSTRUCTIONS
Containment/Transportation
• Follow health care facility protocol for safe
containment and transport to the decontamination
environment.
• It is recommended that devices are cleaned
immediately after use.
Preparation for Cleaning
• Disassembly is required.
