Using the IPM-400 as a Source (cont'd)
Check 1 to 5 Volt Inputs without Disconnecting Wires
Display: V, mV
Most 1 V to 5 V receivers in 4 mA to 20 mA loops have a 250 Ω resistor across the input of
the receiver. This resistor may be mounted internally or externally. The IPM-400 can be
connected directly across the input of the 1 V to 5 V receiver without disconnecting any field
wiring. Ensure that changing the signal input will not disturb the process or cause unexpected
alarms when checking on-line instruments. To produce the desired voltage across the device
input, the IPM-400 will source or sink current up to its limit of 20 mA.
Note: The IPM-400 drives only the device to which it is connected. It has no effect on other
devices in the 4 mA to 20 mA loop.
1.
Turn the Selector knob to
2.
Connect the black and red leads to the meter as shown.
3.
Repeatedly press the DISPLAY/SOURCE/READ button until "SOURCE" appears on the
display.
4.
Press the TYPE/ENG UNITS button to toggle between "mV" and "V".
5.
Connect the red lead of the meter to the plus (+) input of the device and the black lead to
the minus (–).
6.
With the toggle switch at SET, adjust the output to the desired value.
7.
Flip the toggle switch to HI or LO to use the stored values. See the Storing Output Values
section to change the stored values.
Note: Any associated 250 Ω resistor must not be disconnected.
