patient tissue
Ionwand is too close to instru-
ment or port
Ionwand partially contaminated
with fluid or smoke particles
Ionwand is defective
Rate of smoke production is too
high to allow a smoke-precipitat-

Ionwand is heavily contaminat-
ed with smoke particles
Catheter is contaminated with

Check generator is switched on and
charged battery correctly inserted.
Check that the mains converter is cor-
rectly inserted and that its correct power
supply is being used. Check that the jack
at the end of the power supply cable is
correctly inserted into the mains convert-
er and that the power is turned on.
Ensure system configured correctly for
the electrosurgical instrument being
used.
Confirm patient return path is correctly
configured. Deliberately touch patient
tissue with the Ionwand. If the proximity
alarm DOES NOT sound, replace the
Ionwand and repeat.
If above action does not resolve the prob-
lem replace the patient return adaptor
and patient return electrode.
Switch Ultravision off. Ensure leads are
not in contact or wrapped around those of
another system.
Restart Ultravision generator.
Locate Ionwand with laparoscope and
confirm it is not too close to patient tissue.
If too close, reposition the Ionwand.
Locate Ionwand with laparoscope and con-
firm it is not too close to port or trocar. If too
close, reposition the Ionwand.
Remove the Ionwand and wipe with sterile
surgical wipe. Refer to "Use during sur-
gery" in Chapter 4: Using the Ultravision™
system
If above actions do not resolve the situa-
tion, replace the Ionwand.
Reduce the rate of smoke produc-
tion by cutting more slowly.
Remove the Ionwand and wipe with sterile
surgical wipe. Refer to "Use during sur-
gery" in Chapter 4: Using the Ultravision™
system.
Insert the catheter further into the ab-
dominal cavity.
If above actions do not resolve the situa-
tion, replace the Ionwand.
Switch Ultravision off. Ensure leads are
not in contact or wrapped around those of
another system and restart the Ultravision
system. Reposition the Ionwand and
cable if this does not resolve the situation.
