ing easier for the operator when the hydraulic and control
unit is not next to the basic machine chassis. The pushbut-
ton enables the welder, without leaving the chassis during
the welding process, to confirm various states (e.g., end of
butt facing, pipe offset check, bead build-up, heating ele-
ment insertion) that otherwise would have to be confirmed
by pressing the START/SET key on the control unit.
3.5
Overview of the Welding Process
The welding control program supports the extended data
encoding specifications under the ISO 12176 standard, e.g.,
pipe and fitting traceability codes. To use this capability, the
desired data have to be enabled in the configuration menu,
at "Recording" (see Sect. 4.1).
All data that are relevant for the joint or for component
traceability are saved to the internal memory and can be
sent to a USB stick.
The welding parameters can also be entered manually. The
welding system is controlled by a microprocessor and:-
• controls and monitors the welding process in a fully au-
tomated way, when the welder starts it after compo-
nent preparation,
• determines welding duration depending on ambient
temperature,
• shows all information on the display in plain text,
records the welding process and offers the download of that
welding report as a PDF abstract or extended report or in
the format of the welding data management application
HÜRNER Data Work Professional.
For your convenience, the machine can be specifically cos-
tumized in a configuration menu (see section 4.1).
The welder performs the butt-welding process in the fol-
lowing manner:
• Pipes are clamped into the chassis frame.
If pipes with an outside diameter smaller than the maxi-
mum dimension of the machine are welded, select the
reducer set needed. The 8 individual inserts of the set
that matches the outside diameter of the pipe to be
welded have to be attached to the clamps of the ma-
chine chassis using the provided bolts.
• The mandatory and the optional component traceabil-
ity data are entered in the menus on the screen.
• Pipe butts are worked using the pipe facing tool.
• Pipe alignment is checked according to the information
displayed on the screen.
• The technical parameters of the welding process itself
are entered or re-used from the preceding welding op-
