MODEL ST & MT
- OXY-FUEL EQUIPMENT
OPERATING & SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction:
The Harris Products Group Perfect Flame system is essentially and oxy-fuel gas bearing system. Harris recommends that
installers and operators follow accepted oxy-fuel industry operating standards whenever possible.
When using Harris torch, tip, gas control, and related equipment Harris recommends reading and being familiar with Harris
Products instruction and safety publications:
P/N – 9505643 Instruction Manual – Gas Cutting, Brazing Welding and Heating Torches
P/N – 9500597 Equipment Operation Safety Guidelines
(Additional publications available – See list on p.5 of Harris publication P/N – 9505643 above)
Gas Supply System Requirements and Cautions:
The Perfect Flame System is an oxy-fuel brazing system requiring supply from individual cylinders, a pipeline system, or
a combination. Individual cylinder operation guidelines and safety requirements can be found in Harris Products Group
Instruction Manual P/N – 9505643. Pipeline supply systems should comply with NFPA 51 2013 standards.
Gas inlet pressures to the Perfect Flame unit should be from 10 to 50 PSIG*. Outlet flow requirements will be 2 – 100
SCFH depending upon tip size and fuel gas being used.
Testing Systems for Leaks:
General torch equipment testing for leak instructions can be found in the Harris Products Group Torch Instruction Manual
P/N – 9505643. Using an approved bubble solution, submersion in water, and/or the alternative pressure drop testing
WARNING: Never use bubble solution or submersion
method are all, or in part, accepted methods of testing for gas leaks.
in water to test for leaks on components within the metal enclosure of the Perfect Flame units. Damage to critical
components or electrical shock may be the result.
When to test for gas leaks:
Scheduled periodic gas leak testing is also suggested by Harris at installation or whenever maintenance involving gas
tight connections in the system is performed. Frequency of testing should be established by the end-user depending upon
the environment and conditions existing where being used.
Valveless Torch Handle Special Precautions:
The Harris Product Group recommends valveless torch handles be used with the Perfect Flame for the best and most
accurate performance. Whenever using valveless torches with the Perfect Flame a separate on/off valve system is still
required for proper and safe, especially in an emergency, system operation. Use a Harris Model 50 Torch with built-in on/
off valve or a Harris Gas Block oxy-fuel lever actuated on/off system.
Oxy-Fuel Safety Devices:
Never modify oxy-fuel equipment by removing or altering safety devices with which they are originally equipped. Check
valves and flashback arrestors (FBAs) are highly recommended for Perfect Flame systems. Select the proper FBA types
and installation location to protect personnel and to protect delicate internal electronic components from damage. For
assistance in selection and placement, contact The Harris Products Group at 1800.733.4043
*Note – When using Acetylene, pressures should never be greater than 15 PSIG.
