8. Operating the system

8.1 Microphone control modes
The CCU provides three methods of
microphone control:
Refer to Figure 9
and
'Open'
Microphone-key control with request to speak
registration
- To activate the microphone press the
microphone button (fig.3
- The number of delegates permitted to speak
is limited to the number of active
microphones selected 1, 2 or 4 (fig.9
- Example: - if 4 Active Micro's have been
selected and four delegates are currently
speaking, no other delegates may join in. If a
fifth delegate wants to join in the debate, this
delegates joins a 'Request-to-speak' list,
However, if one of the current speakers
switches his microphone off, the next
delegate in the request-to-speak list can join
in the debate or the first microphone in the
request-to-speak list switches on
automatically.
'Override'
Microphone-key control with override of
already active microphones (First-In-First-Out).
Delegates activate their microphones by
pressing the microphone button (fig.3
- If the number of active microphones is 4 and
the number of current speakers is 3 then the
delegate can join in the debate without
interrupting the group of speakers. However
if the number of current speakers is 4 and a
new delegate now presses his microphone
button to join in the debate, the microphone
unit of the first speaker in the group will be
switched off (FIFO - First-In-First-Out),
allowing the new delegate to join in the
discussion. Using the override mode, no
'Request-to-speak' list is available.
Note: In both modes the chairman,
can always activate his microphone.
'Voice'
Voice activated mode.
Microphones are activated when spoken into.
To mute the microphone press the
microphone on/off button (fig.3

To produce optimum speech intelligibility for a
particular discussion room or conference hall

system audio equalisation facility.This facility
automatically sets the overall audio
characteristics of the DCN unit loudspeakers.
To Equalise the system proceed as follows:
- On the front panel of the Central Control

Unit locate the Push-button switch under
'Equalizer' and the small recess switch 'Start'.

- Using a small pointed device (i.e paper-clip) -
place the device in the small recess hole and
activate the 'Start' switch to automatically
equalise the system.The 'Busy' LED is
switched on. In this state, select one to 8
delegate units for the measurement process,
by pressing their microphone buttons.The
default microphone is the chairmans unit
having the lowest unit-address or, if no
chairman unit is present, the delegate unit
with the lowest unit-address.

DCN Discussion System
Note: In voice activated mode the
distance between adjacent units
should not be less than 70 cm
Sound Management
Note: Channels 12 (line-output) and
channel 13 (delegate/loudspeakers) only
will be equalised.
Note: Before carrying out the
equalisation process, it is recommended
that the surrounding area be kept as
quiet as possible.
