English
makes it easier to put on the brace. Put
the Spinomed on the same way as you
would a rucksack:
• Open the large hook-and-loop fastening
in the front.
• Put the brace on as you would a
rucksack (Fig. 5). The back support must
lie upon the back, supported by the
padding (Fig. 8).
• Slip your right hand into the loop on the
right side of the fastening. Hold the left
half of the fastening in place with your
left hand and close the broad stomach
fastening (Fig. 6). The brace is fitted
correctly when the lower edge of the
fastening is directly above the groin
(Fig. 7).
Now check the following in front of the
mirror
• The position of the back support: this
should fit snugly to your spine. The
lower edge of the support is positioned
level with the top of the buttock cleft
(Fig. 8).
• The layout of the belt straps: ensure
that the straps are not twisted, though
they may be rotated when they are fed
through the reversing clasp (Fig. 2).
• The seat of the shoulder pads: ensure
that the strap does not cut into the
armpit (Fig. 4).
• The reversing clasps: they should not
press into the patient's side.
Caution
To avoid the possibility of the back brace
slipping, the pelvic strap must be
tightened more than the shoulder strap.
Slight upward slippage of the brace will
not have any effect on the function of
the orthosis. For the sake of comfort,
however, you should pull the brace down
again.
Usage Instructions
The Spinomed should only be worn for
1 to 2 hours per day in the habituation
phase and in order to gradually restore
the muscle activity. The length of time
that the brace is worn can be increased in
stages over the course of the therapy. The
brace should be taken off during longer
periods of sitting or lying down.
If required, the brace must be realigned
by your orthopaedic technician. Your
acceptance and cooperation play an
important role in this form of therapy.
Therefore, should any issues occur,
please discuss them with your doctor or
therapeutic technician. They may be able
to make any potentially required changes
to your Spinomed brace. To ensure that
this therapy is successful, you must follow
your doctor's instructions at all times.
Do not wear the Spinomed directly on the
skin, instead put a t-shirt or undershirt on
underneath the brace.
Care instructions
The straps, shoulder pad and the large
hook-and-loop fastening can be washed
by hand in water with a mild detergent.
The back support and pads can be
cleaned using a moistened cloth. If
required, the back pad can be removed
(Fig. 1) and washed in water by hand too.
Soap residues, lotions and ointments
can cause skin irritation and material
wear.
