7. Installation and hydraulic connection
7.1 Installation
Install the booster in a room that provides an easy
access, well ventilated, frost-proof and protected
against rain.
Be sure that the dimension of the technical room
door is adequate to enter a booster.
Adequate space must be provided for mainte-
nance work. The installation should be freely
accessible from at least two sides.
The installation surface must be level and hori-
zontal.

7.2 Hydraulic connection

ATTENTION! Observe the requirements from
the water supply companies and the local rule
into force.
- The connection of the suction and delivery mani-
folds can be made either on the right or left hand
sides of the installation. It is recommended to
close the ports that are not used with thread caps
or blind flanges.
- Valves must be fitted on the manifolds to isolate
the booster if need be.
- The installation must be fitted with a diaphragm
pressure tank (See the respective technical and
operating instruction).
- The existing pipes must be installed free from
stresses.
Compensators with length limiters for flexible
connecting pipes are recommended for this pur-
pose in order to avoid stresses on the pipe con-
nections and minimise the transmission of instal-
lation vibrations to the building installation.
Connection to public water supply
Be sure the installation can withstand the maxi-
mum pump pressure at zero flow plus the public
water mains pressure. Otherwise connect the
pressure relief valve to the booster outlet.
Connection on load to a tank
Be sure the installation can withstand the maxi-
mum pump pressure at zero flow plus the tank
pressure. Otherwise connect the pressure relief
valve to the booster outlet behind the tank.
Connection on suction to a tank
Be sure that the losses of head do not exceed the
suction capacity of the pumps. It is recommended
to use a foot-strainer valve with a pipe whose
dimension is equal to or higher than the suction
nominal diameter.

7.3 Electrical connection

WARNING! Electrical shock hazard!
Electrical connections and checks must be per-
formed by an authorized electrician and according
to the standards into force.
To make the electrical connection, the corre-
sponding installation and operating instructions
and attached electrical circuit diagrams must be
POMPES SALMSON SAS 01/2012
observed. General points to be considered are
listed below:
- The type of current and voltage of the mains con-
nection must comply with the details on the type
plate and the circuit diagram of the control box.
- The electrical connecting cable must be ade-
quately dimensioned according to the total power
of the booster (see type plate).
- As a protection measure, the booster must be
earthed according to the rules (i.e according to
the local regulations and circumstances). The
connections intended for this purpose are identi-
fied according (see circuit diagram).
- The base frame has to be connected to earth by
using an earth braid linked to the frame (Fig. 1.c,
pos. 11).
8. Commissioning
We recommend that the booster is first commis-
sioned by nearest Salmson's customer service
agent or ask your central customer service
department.
8.1 General preparation and checking
- Before switching on for the first time, check the
wiring has been done correctly on site, particular-
ly the earthing.
- Check that the pipe connections are stress-free.
- Fill the installation and check visually for leaks.
- Open the shut-off valves on the pumps and in the
suction and discharge manifold.
- Open the pump vent screws and slowly fill the
pumps with water so that the air can escape com-
pletely.
ATTENTION! Do not allow the pump to run dry.
Dry running destroys the mechanical seal.
- With no water in the tank pressurize the tank to
a pressure 0.3 bar lower than the starting pres-
sure of the pumps.
ATTENTION! Do not exceed the maximum value
of tank first-inflating.
- Dry running protection:
With public water mains connection: pressure
switch to be connected to the booster.
In the tank, position the float switch for low water
protection so that the booster switches off at
minimum water level, 10 cm minimum above the
bleed screw of the pump.
- Check the direction of rotation of the pumps :
switch on briefly and check whether the direction
of the pumps corresponds to the arrow on the
pump label. Change over 2 phases if the direction
of rotation is not correct.
WARNING! Electrical shock hazard!
Switch off the installation main switch before
changing over the phases.
- Check the motor heat protections inside the con-
trol box are set for the right nominal current
