2 Handling and storage

2.1 Inspect the delivery

1. Check the outside of the package for evident signs of damage.
2. If the product bears visible signs of damage, notify our distributor
within eight days from the delivery date.
Unpacking the unit
1. Follow applicable step:
If the unit is packed in a carton, then remove the staples and open
the carton
If the unit is packed in a wooden crate, then open the cover while
paying attention to the nails and straps.
2. Remove the securing screws or the straps from the wooden base.
Inspection of the unit
1. Remove the packaging material from the product.
Dispose of all the packaging material according to the local
regulations.
2. Inspect the product to determine if any parts have been damaged
or are missing.
3. If applicable, unfasten the product by removing any screws, bolts,
or straps.
For your personal safety, be careful when you handle nails and
straps.
4. Notify the distributor of any anomalies.
2.2 Guidelines for transport
Precautions
WARNING:
Observe the accident prevention regulations in force.
Risk of crushing. The unit and the components can be
heavy. Implement proper lifting methods and always
wear steel-capped boots.
Check the gross weight marked on the packaging in order to choose
suitable lifting equipment.
Installation and securing
The unit can be transported either horizontally or vertically. Make sure
that the unit is securely fastened during transportation, and cannot roll
or fall over.
WARNING:
Do not use eyebolts screwed on the motor for handling the
whole pump unit.
Use straps surrounding the motor if the power of the motor is between
0.25 kW and 4.0 kW.
Use ropes or straps that are linked to the two flanges (eye bolts if
provided) located near the mating zone between the motor and
pump, if the power of the motor is between 5.5 kW and 55.0 kW.
Eyebolts screwed onto the motor may be exclusively used to handle
the individual motor or, in case of a not balanced distribution of
weights, to partially lift the unit vertically starting from a horizontal
displacement.
To move only the pump unit, use the straps firmly fixed to the motor
adapter.
For more information about how to securely harness the unit, see
14
Unit without motor
If the unit is not delivered with a motor, the calibrated fork-shaped shim
is already inserted between the adapter and the transmission coupling.
The shim is inserted to keep the impeller stack in the correct axial
position. In order to prevent damage during transportation the shaft is
also held into place with expanded polystyrene and plastic straps.
The bolts and nuts needed to fasten the motor to the adaptor are not
included.
WARNING:
A pump and motor that are purchased separately and then
coupled together results in a new machine under the
Machinery directive 2006/42/EC. The person making the
coupling is responsible for all safety aspects of the combined
unit.

2.3 Storage instructions

Storage location
The product must be stored in a covered and dry location free from heat,
dirt, and vibrations.
NOTICE:
Protect the product against humidity, heat and mechanical
damage.
Do not place heavy weights on the packed product.
Ambient temperature
The product must be stored at an ambient temperature between -5°C
and +40°C (23°F and 104°F).

3 Product Description

3.1 Pump construction features
This is a vertical, multistage, non-self priming pump, which can be
coupled to ATEX electric motors. The pump can be used to pump:
Hot or cold liquids with a maximum permissible temperature of 90°C
(162°F) and a variable minimum temperature (see data plate).
Liquids which are moderately aggressive to the pump materials.
The metallic parts of the pump that come in contact with liquid are made
of the following:
Series
1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 22
33, 46, 66, 92,
125
The SV pumps 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, and 22 are available in different versions
according to the position of the suction and delivery ports and the shape
of the connection flange.
The product can be supplied as a pump unit (pump and electric motor)
or only as a pump.
NOTICE:
If you have purchased a pump without motor, make sure that the
motor is suitable for coupling to the pump.
The motor shall be a V (vertical) mounting arrangement type with
rain (drip) cover provided
In case of variable speed drive (VSD) application, contact Xylem
or the Authorised Distributor.
Mechanical seal
Intended use
