5. Secure the leg and waist straps in three steps: (A) hook and loop
Waist Strap; (B) Leg Strap: attach hook and loop to hook on Waist
Strap; (C) hook and loop Waist Strap. In this way the scratchy hook is
always facing away from baby's tender skin (Figure 7).
COLLAR APPLICATION (OPTIONAL)
For additional stability, the Papoose may be used in conjunction with the
Miami Jr.
P0 size Front.
®
Infants do not have the muscular strength required to lift their head. With
physician's approval, it may not be necessary to keep the front of the
collar and/or the head strap in place while the infant is supine in bed. In
the supine position, the brace (with or without the head strap) will
maintain proper spinal and airway alignment and limit head tilt and
rotation. This will allow greater access to the child and optimize comfort.
Replace the Front of the collar for transport, handling, or if the child is
restless or agitated.
6. To apply the Miami Jr
of the collar Front should be oriented up, toward the ears (Figure 8).
7. While holding the front of the Miami Jr
snugly against the infant's neck. Apply the collar straps. Tighten
straps alternately, one at a time, to an equal length on both sides.
Place the collar front inside the Papoose (Figure 9).
8. Hook and loop straps must be aligned symmetrically and oriented
"blue-on-blue" to the front adhesive sections. When the collar is
properly fit, there should be equal amounts of excess hook and loop
over-hanging the front blue adhesive sections. These may be trimmed
if desired (Figure 10).
Collar application must be secure to ensure proper fit, maintain
alignment and to prevent the chin from slipping inside. If the infant can
slip his/her chin inside the collar, it is a clear indication that it is not snug
enough.
ROUTINE CARE
Keeping your infant's Papoose and the skin beneath it clean is an
important part of treatment. Daily cleaning will help to prevent skin
irritation. Cleaning the brace will require at least one set of replacement
pads.
While at home, your infant should be carefully bathed with the Papoose
on. After bathing, you will need to remove the brace (and collar) to wash
his/her neck and back, and to change the pads.
Unless otherwise specified by your child's doctor:
Do not remove the Papoose except to wash under it and to change the
pads. Please note any special care instructions on the back of this
pamphlet with important contact numbers.
BRACE REMOVAL & SKIN CARE
Your infant must be lying down in proper anatomical (airway and c-spine)
alignment to remove the brace. Two people will be required for this, one
to maintain appropriate positioning, and one to clean the brace and
child. Before removing the collar (if supplied), note or mark the ends of
the hook and loop straps with pen. When the collar is replaced, the
., scoop the collar up under infant's chin. Sides
