Daily inspection of the protection

The daily test routine ensures that the system is providing
effective protection for personnel.
This test routine is necessary to ensure the original
installation configuration has not been changed since the last
test, typically as a result of a device being replaced for
example. There is a risk that the hazardous area may have
become unprotected, allowing reaching under or over the
protection system, or stepping behind it, without being
detected. If a blanking configuration had been originally set
this could also presents a hazard in the current work process.
This is an important recommendation. Operators may,
however, take different organizational precautions to ensure
the correct protective function of the system.
To check that undetected access to the hazardous area is
not possible, via the gap between the protective field
(optoelectronic safety device) and any mechanical guard
(isolating safety installation), run the 30 mm diameter test rod
through the protected access opening at three different
points (from the top to the bottom):
1. Close to sender: Access opening at protective field limits
(protective field markings)
2. Close to receiver: Access opening at protective field limits
(protective field markings)
3. Between sender and receiver: Access opening at protective
field limits in middle
In this process, only the red LED on the LGTE should light up.
