5 BRAKE SYSTEM.

The disc brakes (a) stand out for their enormous braking efficiency.
When it is humid, disc brakes work much quicker than rim brakes
and they offer the normal effectiveness in a shorter period of time.
They need little maintenance and do not wear down the rims.
However, when it is humid, they tend to make noise.
New brake pads should be taken to the optimum level for
slowing down. Accelerate the bike approximately 3 to 5 times
to some 30 km/h and brake until you stop. The «bedding-in»
process is finished, and at the same time the force necessary
to apply the brakes is reduced.
If the disc brakes are worn (b), the travel of the brake lever is
extended. That is why you must regularly readjust the brake lever.
If you are not completely sure or have a question, contact your bike
specialist!
Warning: The braking system uses mineral oil. It is necessary
to change it regularly, according to the intervals set forth in the
maintenance calendar.

The brake manufacturer usually provides detailed instructions.
Read them carefully before disassembling the wheel or
performing maintenance.
Warning: The disc brakes heat up when they are in use. That
is why you must not touch the brakes just after stopping,
especially after long journeys.
Warning: Do not manipulate the brakes. Brake fluid may leak,
this is toxic to your health and corrodes the paint.

5.1 Hydraulic disc brake control.

Check the brake hoses (c) and the connections regularly in search
of leaks. If you detect a brake fluid leak, consult your BMW dealer.
When the brakes are not well bled, they may not brake or lose
effectiveness.
Check the wear of the brake hoses, the brake pads or metal fixation
parts located at the brake caliper (d). Remove the brake pads
according to the manufacturer instructions, review them well and if
necessary, replace them.
