Product description

®
Your IBM
SCSI hard disk drive is a new Ultra 160 SCSI device that uses
low-voltage differential (LVD) signal transmission that can accelerate
data-transfer speed and lengthen a SCSI device chain. Ultra 160 devices,
working only with Ultra2 or other Ultra 160 devices on a SCSI device chain,
support a maximum instantaneous data-transfer rate of 160 Mbps. You can also
connect up to 16 Ultra2 or Ultra160 SCSI devices together on a SCSI device
cable that can be as long as 12 m (39 ft). Ultra 160 SCSI drives also have
single-ended (SE) transceivers, so the drives can work with SE SCSI devices.
However, when an Ultra2 or Ultra 160 SCSI drive is connected to SE devices
on a SCSI device chain, the maximum data transfer rate is reduced to 40 Mbps,
and the maximum SCSI cable length for the device chain is reduced to 3 m (10
ft) when fewer than four devices are on the chain or 1.5 m (5 ft) when four or
more devices are on the chain.
Your Ultra160 drive meets the small computer system interface (SCSI) standard
set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and can be installed
only in a computer that uses the SCSI architecture.
You can configure your new SCSI drive in any of the following ways:
v Single-drive configuration
– To add a hard disk drive to a computer
– To replace an installed hard disk drive
v Multiple-drive configuration
– To operate with installed IDE hard disk drives
– To operate with installed SCSI hard disk drives
In addition to this User's Guide, your option package contains the following:
v SCSI hard disk drive
v Option jumpers
v Mounting screws
v SCSI Hard Disk Drive User's Guide Supplement
v Safety information manual
