Danger of unintentional damage to nerve
structures
Bear in mind that during an APC application in the direct vicinity
of nerve structures, stimulation may be induced by electric cur-
rents.
In the case of nerves which require protection it is advisable to
keep the APC activation time short and adapt minimum power
output to the required indication.
3.7
Protection against HF leakage current at the
eyepiece
HF leakage current at the eyepiece of the endoscope can cause the
user thermal damage. To avoid this please only use endoscopes
that are designed for use with electrosurgical accessories.
3.8
Risk of burns to the patient
Flash-overs, activation in the working channel of the endoscope
or without visual control of the distal end of the APC applicator
can cause unwanted thermal injuries to the patient. Therefore,
check that the distal end of the APC applicator protrudes at least
10 mm out of the endoscope before each activation.
This is ensured if:
• the APC applicator with several black rings is visible through
the endoscope at the distal end of the second ring.
• the APC applicator with just one black ring is visible through
the endoscope at the distal end of this ring.
