Checking Thread Length and Depth
(See Figure 13)
1. Thread is of proper length when #1 die is flush with
pipe end for full-width dies only.
2. Thread is of proper depth if ring gage is plus or
minus one ( + /-1) turn from end of pipe.
3. A pipe fitting with 4 to 5 turns of hand tight engage-
ment is compatible with a ring gage.
4. To correct large (shallow) threads adjust die head
slightly toward the UNDER marking on die head
size bar.
5. To correct small (deep) threads adjust die head
slightly toward the OVER marking on die head size
bar.
Changing Dies in No. 815-A Self-Opening
Die Heads
(Figure 14)
1. With machine unplugged, remove die head from car-
riage.
2. Release trigger assembly and loosen clamp lever
about 6 turns.
3. Pull out on lock screw until pin clears the slot. Slide
size bar to align index line to the CHANGE DIES po-
sition on size bar.
4. Lay die head flat on bench with die head numbers
facing up, remove worn dies and insert new dies
into appropriate slots.
5. With new dies located at the INSERT TO LINE po-
sition, push down on throw-out lever, replace lock
screw/pin into slot, adjust size bar and tighten clamp
lever.
6. For all bolt dies match index line to BOLT line on
size bar.

Opening Die Head
(Figure 15)
1. Chuck pipe.
2. Cut and ream pipe.
3. Install proper size dies into die head.
4. Size die head to proper size.
5. Turn ON/OFF switch to ON position and place the
cutter and reamer in their UP position, step on foot
switch.
NOTE! Cutting oil will flow to carriage and dump into
chip pan. Certain machines do not include foot
switch.
6. Lower die head and oil will flow through head and
onto dies. Throwout lever must be in CLOSE posi-
tion.
7. Feed die head towards pipe with carriage hand-
wheel. Apply slight pressure to hand wheel until 3-4
threads have been cut.
8. Release handwheel.
