(even-seater vehicles)
• Connect the connector on the vehicle's existing electrical installation (on the right-hand side
(when viewed in the direction of travel) of the luggage compartment) to the connector on the
switch in the luggage compartment side panelling (see detail).
Applies to vehicles not set up for a tow bar
Routing and connecting the wiring harness for vehicles not set up for a tow bar (order no.
565 971 658G).
- 35, 36 -
How to connect and secure the control unit (C):
• Connect the connectors (A) and (H) on the tow bar's wiring harness to the control unit (C).
• Push the control unit onto the pins on the vehicle floor as shown in the figure, and use the
plastic nuts (D) to screw this in. Tighten the nuts to 1.5 Nm (see detail).
• Connect the remaining connector on the tow bar's wiring harness (A) to the connector (H)
on the tow bar's wiring harness. Clip the plug connection into the opening on the side of the
vehicle (see arrow).
- 37, 38 -
• Route the tow bar's wiring harness (H) from the luggage compartment parallel to the
vehicle's existing electrical installation, over the wheel cover, then parallel to the vehicle sill
and over to the BCM control unit and the fuse holder below the instrument cluster.
Earth connection
• Take the earthing loops from the tow bar's wiring harness (H) and connect them under the
earth screw on the wheel cover (see arrow). Tighten the earth screw's nut to 9 Nm.
Please note: In the luggage compartment, secure the tow bar's wiring harness to the
vehicle's existing electrical installation using cable ties (S). If the vehicle does not have
an existing wiring harness in this area, use the cable ties with snappers (R) to secure
the tow bar's wiring harness.
Fasten the remaining section of the wiring harness (which is routed towards the front
of the vehicle) to the vehicle's existing electrical installation parallel to the vehicle sill,
again using cable ties (S). Position the cable ties at distances of approx. 15 to 20 cm
apart.

(five-seater vehicles)
• Take the section of the tow bar's wiring harness (H) that is to be connected to the switch in
the right-hand luggage compartment side panelling and route it parallel to the vehicle's existing
electrical installation and upwards to the roof lining.
• In accordance with the workshop's practices, pull the wiring harness underneath the roof to the
right-hand D-pillar.
Caution: When pulling the wiring harness underneath the roof lining, proceed with
extreme care in order to avoid damaging (cracking) the roof lining.
• On the right-hand side, take the section of the tow bar's wiring harness that has been pulled
through, and route it parallel to the vehicle's existing electrical installation and down to the
wiring harnesses for the rear lights. Then pull the end of the wiring harness that has the con-
nector attached to it through the opening in the support on the D-pillar (see arrow).
• Secure the wiring harness on the D-pillars to the vehicle's existing electrical installation using
cable ties (S) at distances of approx. 15 cm apart.
