Please note: Use cable ties to secure the wires under the instrument cluster to
the fuse holder and BCM control unit, such that they cannot become detached.
This prevents them from coming into contact with any other components located
under the instrument cluster (knee airbag, foot pedals, steering column, etc. for
left-hand drive vehicles, and the passenger-side storage compartment and moving
part of the heater (flap) for right-hand drive vehicles).
Under no circumstances should the operation of the knee airbag, foot pedals or
any other components located underneath the instrument cluster be impaired.
At the same time, it must still be possible to disconnect the fuse holder, as well as
the connectors for the BCM control unit.
Instructions for vehicles set up/not set up for a tow bar
Refit all the components that you removed earlier and tighten each of the connections to
the specified tightening torques.
Connect the vehicle battery and carry out all the steps for disconnecting and reconnecting
the battery.
Activating the tow bar
Carry out guided troubleshooting.
• Activate the "Software version management (SVM)" function. In this menu, select function 3,
known as the "Conversion/retrofitting solution" (see fig. 46).
• Enter the five-digit task code (can be found in the spare parts catalogue (ETKA)) and confirm.
• End the diagnostics in the usual manner.
• Test how the ball hitch swivels in and out (fig. 44), checking whether the towball on the
swivelling ball hitch collides with the frame. Check that the rear view camera (if fitted) is
functioning correctly.
Use a trailer or tester to check that the tow bar is working correctly. If using a
tester, it is recommended that this tester should be able to simulate the actual
electrical load that would be applied when a trailer is coupled.
