3 Applications
The mixer MPX-205 / SW with four stereo input
channels and one DJ microphone channel is
suit able for any desired number of private or
professional DJ applications .
The unit can be used as a table top unit or
be installed into a console desk . It is suitable
for mounting into a rack (482 mm / 19") as
well . For rack mounting, a height of 5 rack
spaces = 222 mm is necessary .

4 Connecting the Mixer

Prior to connecting units or changing existing
con nections, switch off the mixer .
4.1 Inputs
1) Connect the stereo audio sources to the
corresponding RCA input jacks of channels
1 to 4:
– units with line level output (e . g . CD / MP3
player, tape recorder) to the jacks CD or
LINE (35);
– turntables with magnetic system to the
jacks PHONO (25) . The terminal screw
GND (26) can also be used as common
ground: Connect the grounding con-
nection of the turntable to the terminal
screw .
2) Connect a DJ microphone to the XLR jack
DJ MIC (1) on the front panel or to the
6 .3 mm jack DJ MIC (27) on the rear panel .
(When a microphone is connected to the
6 .3 mm jack, the XLR jack will be switched
off .)
4.2 Outputs
1) Connect the amplifier or other following
units with line input level (e . g . second
mixer) to the corresponding output jacks:
– The master signal of the master chan-
nel A is present at the XLR output A (29)
and at the RCA output A (31) .
– The master signal of the master chan-
nel B is present at the RCA output B (30) .
2) For audio recordings, connect the recorder
to the output REC (32) . The recording level
is independent of the position of the two
master faders (6 and 9) .
3) Via stereo headphones, the pre-fader
level of each input channel 1 to 4 as well
as the current music programme can be
monitored ahead of the master faders
(see chapter 5 .5 "Pre-fader listen ing of
the channels via headphones") . Connect
the headphones (impedance ≥ 8 Ω) to the
jack (11) .

4.3 Send and return connections

1) The channel signals which have been fed
to the send way with the buttons SEND
(16) are routed out of the mixer at the out-
put SEND (34) . Here, another unit with line
level input (e . g . effect unit, amplifier of
a monitoring system) may be con nected .
The send way is a pre-fader way,
i . e . the signals of the input channels are

switched to the send output ahead of the
faders (18) .
2) The signals taken off via the send output
and fed through an effect unit can be re-
turned to the mixer via the return input:
Connect the output of the effect unit to
the stereo input RETURN (33) .
4.4 Console illumination and
mains connection
For an optimum console illumination, a goose-
neck light (12 V/ 5 W max .) can be connected
to the XLR jack LAMP (8), e . g . GNL-405 . The
light is switched on and off with the mixer .
Finally, connect the plug of the mains
cable (28) to a mains socket (230 V/ 50 Hz) .
5 Operation
Prior to switching on, the master faders A (6)
and B (9) should be set to minimum to avoid
loud switch ing noise . Then switch on the
mixer with the switch POWER (10) . The LED
next to the switch lights up to indicate that
the unit is ready for operation . Then switch
on the units connected .
CAUTION Never adjust the audio system
or the headphones to a very
high volume . Permanent high
volumes may dam age your
hearing! The human ear will
get accustomed to high vol-
umes which do not seem to
be that high after some time .
Therefore, do not further in-
crease a high volume after
getting used to it .
5.1 Basic adjustment
of the input channels
For an optimum level adjustment of the units
connected, set all gain controls (3) and the
equalizer controls (4 and 5) at first to mid-
position . Set both C .F . ASSIGN switches (22
and 23) to the position "X" (crossfader func-
tion switched off) .
1) For switching on the DJ microphone, press
the button ON AIR (15) . As an indication,
the LED above the button lights up .
2) Select the signal sources connected to
the channels 1 to 4 with the selector but-
tons (2) .
3) With the master faders, the overall level
of all con nected audio sources is adjusted
which is pres ent at the master outputs:
master fader A (6) for the two master out-
puts A (29) and (31), master fader B (9) for
the master output B (30) .
Set the control of that master channel
which is used for the basic adjustment
of the input channels to approx .
maximum position, e . g . to position 7 .
4) The selector button (21) for the VU meter
(20) must not be pressed: Then the VU
meter shows the level of one of the master
channels – accord ing to the position of the
button (7), the level of master channel A
or the level of master channel B .
With the button (7), set the VU meter
to that master channel which is used for
the basic ad justment of the input channels:
button not pressed:
The level of master channel A is displayed .
button pressed:
The level of master channel B is displayed .
5) To control a channel, set the faders (18) of
the other channels to minimum .
6) Feed the audio signals (test signals or music
pieces) to the respective input channel .
7) By means of the VU meter, adjust the level
of the channel with the channel fader . The
optimum level is obtained when the 0 dB
range of the VU meter lights up with music
peaks . If more than 0 dB is indicated, the
channel is overloaded . After level adjust-
ment, the fader should be at approx .
its maximum so that there is a sufficient
control range for fading in and out .
With the fader advanced only slightly
or very far, the level must be matched by
adjusting the input amplification . For chan-
nels 1 to 4, the input amplification can be
adjusted in an optimum way by the display
of the pre-fader level . Press the selector
button (21) to switch the VU meter to the
display mode "PFL", and press the button
PFL (17) of the channel: The VU meter will
show the signal level of the channel ahead
of the channel fader . Adjust the GAIN con-
trol (3) of the channel so that the 0 dB LEDs
light up with music peaks and the red LEDs
do not light at all .
8) Release the selector button (21) to switch
the VU meter to the display mode "MAS-
TER" again, and adjust the desired sound
with the equalizer controls of the channel:
For channels 1 to 4, the HIGH, the MID
and the LOW frequencies can be boosted
to max . 15 dB or largely at tenuated to
30 dB max . with the 3-way equalizer (4) .
For the DJ microphone channel, the high
and low frequencies can be boosted or
attenuated to 15 dB max . with the 2-way
tone control (5) .
When the controls are in mid-posi-
tion, the frequency response will not be
affected .
Note: Sound adjustments have an effect on the
level . Therefore, after a sound adjustment, check
the channel level by means of the level display and
correct it, if necessary .
9) Make the level and sound adjustments
for the other input channels connected
as described above .
5.2 Crossfading between two
channels
1) With the two C .F . ASSIGN switches, the

to select the channel to be faded in when
the crossfader (24) is set to the left .
Use the right switch C .F . ASSIGN B (23)
