7 Inspection and maintenance
Note!
Cleaning can lead to slight wear on the coating.
This does not impair the function of the heating
element.
Note!
When fitting the heating element, make sure
the burner chambers are aligned centrally below
the heating shaft.
Note!
Do not forget to plug the safety thermostat
back into the heating element.
• First fit the heating element and then the burner.
Repairing damaged coating
Small scratches or chips on the coating of the heating
element can be easily touched up with the Supral pen
(spare part no. 990 310).
The damaged area must be dry and free of dust and
grease.
• Shake the Supral pen vigorously before use and then
apply the coating material in a thin and even layer.
Note!
The coating dries in the air and requires no fur-
ther treatment. You can operate the appliance
immediately after coating.

Checking the function of the water circuit
breaker
Regularly check the water circuit breaker for dirt or lime
scale.
• If there are accumulations on the membrane disc pin
or if the stuffing box leaks:
Use the suitable repair kit.
7.5
Checking the flue gas sensor
The gas instantaneous water heater is equipped with a
flue gas sensor. If there is a problem with the flue sys-
tem and flue gas enters the room, it switches off and
seals the appliance.
Always check whether the flue gas sensor is working
properly after any inspection or maintenance work. We
recommend using the Vaillant flue gas fan, which is
available as a spare part (no. 990 301). The operating
manual supplied describes how to use it.
This is how to do it:
• Block the flue exit with the Vaillant flue gas fan.

Fig. 7.6 Setting the maximum temperature and performance
• Turn the power switch (1) clockwise to the maximum
temperature.
• Turn the power switch (6) anticlockwise to maximum
performance.
• Open the hot water tap.
The flue gas sensor must cut off the gas supply within
two minutes and shut off the appliance.
After the flue gas sensor cools down (at least 15 min-
utes), you can start the appliance up again, first putting
it in standby mode, see 4.3.2.
• Close all hot water taps.
If the flue gas sensor does not act in this time:
• Contact customer service.
• Put the appliance out of operation.
7.6
Test operation and restarting
Always check whether the appliance is working properly
after any inspection or maintenance work:
• Start up the appliance.
• Check the appliance for gas and water leaks and seal
them.
• Check for ignition and an even flame on the main
burner.
• Check that the pilot flame is working properly.
• Check that the flue system is working properly
(hygrometer).
• Check that control and monitoring devices are correct-
ly adjusted and working properly.
7.7
Spare parts
Only genuine Vaillant spare parts may be used for
inspections, maintenance and repair work to ensure the
perfect long-term working order of all functions of your
Vaillant appliance and to prevent the allowed series con-
dition from being changed.
Any spare parts which might be required are contained
in the current Vaillant spare parts catalogues. Vaillant
sales offices will provide information.
