V. SET UP & USE OF YOUR WHEELCHAIR
DD. Bushings
1. Bushing Replacement (It is recommended that this procedure be performed by a
qualified technician)
a. Note which hole the yoke is aligned with in
the seat frame. Using a 4mm Allen wrench
and a 10mm wrench or socket, remove
screws and nuts that hold seat frame to
yokes (Fig. 64:E) on both sides of chair
and flip seat forward.
b. Using a 4mm Allen wrench, remove pivot
screw (Fig. 64:A) and pivot sleeve (Fig.
64:B). Note that the nut (Fig. 64:C) will fall
out of pocket in rear frame strut mount
(Fig. 64:D). Keep nut in safe place for
future reinstallation.
c. Carefully slide yoke (Fig. 64:E) up and out
of the base frame.
d. Remove old bushings (Fig. 64:F) from the
legs of the yoke. Note that bushings are
to be pushed through from the outside of
the legs. Ensure all old bushing material is
removed and holes are smooth.
e. If bushings are worn through, or if there is other damage to the yoke that prevents proper
function, replacement yokes are required. Please contact customer service.
f. Install new bushings from between the legs of the yoke. It may be helpful to push bushings
in by using the side of a knife blade or other thin, flat, rigid object, taking care not to damage
new bushings. It is not recommended to use fingers as this may skew the bushings and
damage them while installing. Ensure bushings are installed straight. Do not use excessive
force to get them into place - very little force should be necessary to push bushings in
straight. When finished, the flanges of the bushings should be resting flat against the insides
of the yoke legs. A replacement yoke is required.
g. Slide yoke with new bushings in between base frame plates with legs of yoke straddling axle
plate. Note that the flatter side of the yoke is to be facing the outside of the chair.
h. Align holes of base frame plates, yoke and axle bar and reinstall pivot sleeve. It may be help-
ful to use a long, round object such as a #2 Philips screwdriver to pre-align the holes for
easier installation. Do not force sleeve into place as this could damage one or more compo-
nents, including the bushings.
i. Slide pivot screw (Fig. 64:A) through sleeve. While holding nut (Fig. 64:C) in pocket of rear
frame strut mount (Fig. 64:D), thread screw into nut and tighten, ensuring small pegs on face
of strut mount align with holes on the inside base frame plate.
j. Repeat for opposite side of chair.
k. Reinstall seat frame in same position as installed previously. The distance between the front
strut mount screw (Section T: Fig 43:C) mount and the yoke mount screw (Section T: Fig.
43:A) should be 9" (22.86 cm) (See Section T: Seat Frame Set Up). Check to verify smooth
tilt operation.
