TRaininG: It is the responsibility of users of this equipment to understand these instructions and be trained
in correct installation, use, and maintenance of this equipment. Users must be aware of the consequences of
improper installation or use of this equipment. This instruction manual is not a substitute for a training program.
Training must be provided on a periodic basis to ensure user proficiency.
deSCRipTion: Sealed-Blok™ SRLs provide fall protection and worker mobility in a sealed enclosure designed to keep
critical components free of dirt, grease, water and chemicals.
puRpoSe:
Sealed-Blok™ Self Retracting Lifelines are designed to be a component in a personal fall arrest
system (PFAS). They may be used in most situations where a combination of worker mobility and fall protection is
required (i.e. inspection work, general construction, maintenance work, oil production, confined space work, etc.).
Some Sealed-Blok™ SRL models incorporate a built-in retrieval feature. These models have the same fall arrest
capabilities as those described above when used in their non-retrieval mode. In the retrieval mode these models
may be used for emergency rescue (raising or lowering) of personnel within the capacity range stated below. It
is also permissible to use retrieval models for raising and lowering of materials within the stated capacity range.
Other Sealed-Blok™ SRL models include the DBI-SALA RSQ controlled descent feature for self-rescue/descent or
assisted rescue. See Capital Safety manual 5903079 (Sealed-Blok™ Self Retracting Lifeline with Retrieval) and
5903078 (Sealed-Blok™ Self Retracting Lifeline).
limiTaTionS: Installation and use of this equipment is restricted to the following limitations:
STRuCTuRe: The structure to which the Sealed-Blok™ SRL is installed must be capable of withstanding the
loads applied by the system in the event of a fall (see System Requirements).
SYSTem CapaCiTY: Sealed-Blok™ SRLs are designed for use by persons with a combined weight (person,
clothing, tools, etc.) of 75 lbs (34 kg) to 310 lbs (140.6 kg). Some units have a capacity of 420 lbs (190.5 kg).
Refer to the instruction label to determine the capacity of your unit. At no time shall more than one person
connect to a single SRL for fall arrest applications.
enviRonmenTal HazaRdS: Use of this equipment in areas with environmental hazards may require
additional precautions to reduce the possibility of injury to the user or damage to the equipment. Hazards may
include, but are not limited to: high heat caused by welding or metal cutting; caustic chemicals; seawater;
high voltage power lines; explosive or toxic gases; moving machinery; sharp edges.
ComponenT CompaTiBiliTY: The SRL is designed for use with Capital Safety approved components
and subsystems (see System Requirements). The use of non-approved components and subsystems may
jeopardize compatibility of equipment, and could affect the safety and reliability of the complete system.
IMportant: The Sealed-Blok™ SRL should not be used in combination with another fall protection system
or sub system, except if authorized by Capital Safety.
loCkinG Speed: Situations which do not allow for an unobstructed fall path should be avoided. Working in
confined or cramped spaces may not allow the body to reach sufficient speed to cause the SRL to lock if a fall
occurs. Working on slowly shifting material, such as sand or grain, may not allow enough speed buildup to
cause the SRL to lock. A clear path is required to assure positive locking of the SRL.
SYSTem ReQuiRemenTS: Plan your fall protection system and how it will be used before starting your work.
Consider all factors that will affect your safety before, during, and after a fall. Include the following considerations
when planning your system:
BodY SuppoRT: A full body harness must be used with the Sealed-Blok™ SRL. The harness connection point
must be above the user's center of gravity. A body belt is not authorized for use with the SRL. If a fall occurs when
